nice thread...but in addition to writing, members should DONATE to the National Republican Senatorial Committee. They did a half decent job last time around as I remember!;)
Send them 10 bucks when you get a chance.

thanks, I got that handy list of phone numbers from one of your posts...

If you donate to http://www.NRSC.org I suggest you make it like "federal" money. Say, here's a $10 grant. The other $10 comes after Estrada is confirmed...Or something like that.

Keep this thread bumped until Estrada gets confirmed.

"Being Hispanic for us means much more than having a surname," said New Jersey Rep. Bob Menendez, a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. "It means having some relationship with the reality of what it is to live in this country as a Hispanic American."

Wow, great job!

Estrada Gets Support From Latino Coalition.

My letter to the Dems:

"We cannot ask a [judicial] candidate what he would do; and if we did and he should answer, we should only despise him for it." So sermonized President Abraham Lincoln to Rep. George S. Boutwell.."

LET MIGUEL HAVE HIS VOTE!

SOMEONE was looking for these quotes on Estrada in Spanish. I found this post, these would be great to pass out, say in Chuck Schumer's neighborhood...

"We urge every Senator to treat Miguel Estrada fairly and to vote to confirm." - Hispanic Bar Assn.

"Urgimos a todos los senadores a tratar a Miguel Estrada de manera justa y votar para que sea confirmado"

We don't want to be treated as double standards." -Robert de Posada, Latino Coalition

"No queremos ser tratados con doble moral"

"This is a very serious issue for our community and no politician should take this lightly. We urge the Senate to act responsibly and urge an up or down vote. " - Robert de Posada, Latino Coalition

"Este es un asunto muy serio para nuestra comunidad y ningún político debe tomar esto a la ligera"

"It's of grave concern to those of us with family in the military and overseas that Rome is burning while the Senate is fiddling."

"Es de gran preocupación para aquellos que tenemos familia en las Fuerzas Armadas y en el exterior que Roma arde mientras el Senado toca el arpa" (this is not very literal)

"We rarely have seen, if ever, a record of accomplishment (like) Miguel Estrada." - Juan Carlos Iturregui, Hispanic National Bar Assn.

"Muy pocas veces hemos visto un récord de logros como el de Miguel Estrada"

"We urge Senate to vote on this confirmation NOW. Not next month..." -Juan Carlos Iturregui, Hispanic National Bar Assn.

"Urgimos al Senado a votar por esta confirmación AHORA. No el próximo mes..."

"We also are concerned that some members of the Senate are trying to impose a higher standard of review that is unprecidented." - Juan Carlos Iturregui, Hispanic National Bar Assn

"También estamos preocupados que algunos miembros del Senado están tratando de imponer un estándar de revisión más alto, lo cual no tiene precedente"

Bush is fighting for this nominee...

Well, here is the info this thread has been waiting for. Without Bush nominating this guy, all of these other calls are pointless. W has to be the front man on these judicial fights and he will get slaughtered in the mainstream press for these decisions. We need to let him now in clear terms that we strongly support his decision to put conservatives on the court, and we support Miguel Estrada...

Thanks For the info. I have Cut, Copied, and pasted it to put into my email address book for present and future use.

You are so right! We have to be active, and show the liberal press that "We're mad as hell, and we're not going to take it anymore."

Glad to help get this guy confirmed! I think we should set a goal of getting AT LEAST 60 votes for Estrada because that says the Dem filibuster tactic against judicial nominees is much weaker than Chuck "Shot across the bow" would like to think.

So Freepers, even if you're senators are already supporting Estrada, call them anyways. That will make them see how IMPORTANT this is to us.

If your senators are NOT supporting Estrada, let them know they might want to rethink that position!

And don't forget to email the President! He will be the one doing the heavy lifting actually calling Senators like Bill Nelson, Mary Landrieu, etc. We want him to know he has our STRONG support behing us.

Are you with me FREEPers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for your appreciation. This guy was nominated two years ago, and my Florida Senators did NOTHING to get this guy a vote. Now, we have a 2 year window with a Republican President and Senate. Really it's only 6 months to a year because with the election next everything will slow down. I think there's a good chance Rehnquist and/or others may step down this summer. All of the above reasons are why we have to FIGHT so hard now to get Estrada, Owens, Pickering, etc confirmed. If we can get Estrada confirmed (let's shoot for 60 votes) then future battles will be half way won before they've even started.
