Yesterday evening, Congressman Bob Filner, who was on his way to the El Centro INS Detention Facility to see a deportee, blew through the security checkpoint at the entrance to the INS and Border Patrol stations. The entrance to the INS Detention Center has a large stop sign requiring everyone to stop so that they can be inspected by the INS agent manning the checkpoint. Apparently, the Congressman did not feel the need to be inspected during these times of hightened security, and with the media in tow, stormed passed the guard and into the INS Detention Facility. The Facility itself, is for the most part, a prison which houses some extremely dangerous people. His attempted breach of the confines of the facility definitely posed a safety hazard to say the least. Bob Filner was apparently oblivious to the fact that he was among rapists, gangbangers and many other types of violent criminals as he ranted about seeing some deportees that were scammed by a fake lawyer.
Oh yeah, Congressman Filner was there because some deportees at the facility had hired a lawyer to help with their cases. However, the lawyer turned out to be a con artist. Needless to say this complicated their cases quite a bit. Somehow, Bob Filner found out about these deportees and decided the best way to deal with their situation was to engage the media, storm the INS Detention Facility, threaten INS officers, throw a temper tantrum, shove a supervisor and attempt to incite the officers within the facility to assault him.
All of my friends that I have talked to that work at the facility were quite shocked at his behavior. Of course, they were less shocked at the fact that Congressman Filner has less concern and respect for the people that protect our communities than he does for those that are trying to destroy them. Interestingly enough, many of the people that work at the Detention Facility are Democrats. I wonder how they feel about being accused of being on the wrong side.

I'm surprised the guards didn't go after him one way or the other...... maybe they just know who he is? He does not appear to be the brightest bulb in the bunch.

...from his Congressional bio:
Bob earned a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Cornell University (1963), a Master's Degree in History from the University of Delaware (1969) and a Doctorate in the History of Science from Cornell University (1973). He is one of only a handful of Members of Congress with a scientific degree and one of only 18 Members in the House of Representatives holding a Ph.D.
While in college, Bob became active in the struggle for civil rights. In 1961, he joined the first Freedom Rides and was arrested and imprisoned for several months in Mississippi.

Filner is one of those guys who just keeps getting elected because people are too stupid to find out what exactly he does or stands for. A few years ago he was the top absentee from Congressional Sessions. I cringe whenever I see him.

Bob Filner is a member of the Progressive (Marxist) caucus in the U.S. Congress and a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. No surprise here.

I don't know if it makes any difference, but he did apologize afterward. However, I'm not sure what he was apologizing for exactly.

The Border Patrol station is on the same lot as the INS Detention Facility. Border Patrol Agents had standing orders not to allow Bob Filner into the Border Patrol station, HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Since your local INS workers failed to enforce their own rules on visitors, you must share part of the blame.
Why are you guys so scared of enforcing the rules against a Congressman?
Could it be that you guys are breaking other rules, therefore you don't have "clean hands?"
Our local INS prison was a nest of rapists and drug pushers, unfortunately, the guards were the rapists and drug pushers.

If Filner is a Republican, then this story and the outraged screams for his resignation will echo through the left wing media and be in newspapers all over the country for days. The the pinko boradcast media will have this on all week.
If, OTOH, Filner is a democrat, this is one of the very few places where this story will every be told. And, no one will know. But, that's probably best as them dems have a hate for Hispanics and are disgusted by them. They would not want to appear helping Hispanics on one hand while irrationally opposing Estrada on the other.

Filner's education record just goes to show that book smarts don't always translate well to real life. Knowledge is useless if you can't apply it rationally.

Looks like Bob is another wuss who spent the war years hiding out in the halls of academia instead of defending his country.
To: Ajnin
It's a real shame the guards didn't blow him, his staff and his pet media away.
Including a congressman among the dead would send a salutory message that we are serious about enforcing checkpoints.

I'll be waiting to see if this appears in the local paper. Of course, I won't hold my breath.

Bob earned a Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry from Cornell University (1963), That's interesting.... Janet Reno earned a Bachelors in Chemistry from Cornell in 1960. My father did his post-doc in Chemistry there about the same time, but remained a Republican.

Yet another Democrat barreling through a security checkpoint. Why do so many Demicrats feel that laws and security measures don't apply to them?
He sounds like a male version of House MINORTY leader Pelosi (who was the House minority leader before Pelosi?? Anyone know??) I suggest that INS officers at the checkpoint blow out all four of this ideiot's tires.

Psst! Here's the secret of Bob Filner's success: There are 2 million Filipino Americans in America. There are approximately 96,000 of them in San Diego County, and more than half in Filner's district (more than any other congressional district outside of Hawaii). I live about 40 miles from 'Dego, but I heard from friends that this man is earning his keep the old fashioned way: co-sponsoring the Filipino Veteran Equity Act (thousands fought side by side with America in the Philippines during WWII -- and the vets have never gotten their medical and pension benefits); attending baptisms as godfather; going to Filipino social gatherings ('fiesta'), and basically doing what a Filipino politician does back home. At his last campaign, Filipinos, Democratic and Republicans alike, came to support him in massive numbers.

It's the Teddy Kennedy standard. The rules only apply to YOU, the taxpaying law-abider. To do otherwise would assume a level of intelligence not allowed us lower-level life forms.

In his Curriculum Vitae, you forgot to mention that he's a Fellow of The Patrick J. Kennedy School of Airport Manners. Being from California, he especially thankful for The Honorable Congressman Kennedy's efforts on how to treat marginally paid minority workers recorded for the masses at LAX. The PJKSAM Committee will forgive your oversight.

You are aright jigsaw. Scholastic smarts does not preclude a person having good old common sense.
That quality, common sense, seems to be the major characteristic missing from democrats - in general.
I know of Mr. Filner - he's a rep in a nearby section of San Diego. He and Roger Hedgecock butt heads quite frequently.

"It's the Teddy Kennedy standard. The rules only apply to YOU, the taxpaying law-abider. To do otherwise would assume a level of intelligence not allowed us lower-level life forms."How true. Since Democrats are the self styled elite rulers of humanity, they are therefore above such petty things as rules and laws. How dare we, the unwashed, uneducated masses, question their ultimate authority! After all, it's for the children!! (**GACK**)
At least he didn't have his driver run down a security guard, a la Hillary.

...as his bio also states:
As a member of the House Veterans' Affairs Committee and the Senior Democrat on the Subcommittee on Health, Bob also will continue his fight for full veterans benefits for Filipino veterans of World War II. In February 2001, he traveled to the Philippines, and was the first U.S. elected official to meet with new Philippines President Maria Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
