We're going to have to agree to disagree about Janeway. I've always hated her. Someone who was strong yet womanly like Ensign Ro or Major Kira would have been a better choice.

Re: Just found a picture. I stand corrected.

You can substitute how the Borg are going to show up on "Enterprise" as an example of how I dislike Rick and Brandon's utter lack of respect for established ST history.

You win another cigar or kiss. It is better to make history with a future series/film than try and fit in current screen technology to TOS Star Trek's past. The Time Travel/Cold War bit doesn't work for me in the ST timeline either. There are so many diffent original treks to take rather than their current picks.

I say we do like Worf in "Trials and Tribble-ations" (My favorite DS9) and say, "I don't want to discuss it."

Re: There was an interesting non-PC science fiction" show called "firefly" on not long ago. From what I hear is was canned precisely because it was not "agenda oriented" - they actually killed people and the bad guy was the super-state. I am hard pressed to think of a show that is not a platform for the left. Can you?

I though "Firelfy" was the best, most original Sci-fi story since TOS. Saddly, FOX let it die on the vine. I spent many hours and e-mails trying to get UPN, the Sci-Fi Channel, TNN, etc to pick up the series.

BTW, FOX still has three unbroadcast episodes they should burn off by this summer. I look forward to them.

Re: ...have a kick-ass commander? Make Worf captain of the ship...

Good idea. You know Worf made no bones about his way. They once asked him to give some blood to save an Romulan. He told them to stick in their ear, "The Romulans are the enemy."

My kind'a guy!

Okay, we disagree. A reasonable debate is always healthy.

Ro and Kira would have done okay if thrown into the Trek Captains' Cage Death Match, too.

BTW, cannot say when I've had a better morning with this thread. Although I was in country when the Original Star Trek premiered, I have made up for it by watching (& taping) each and every episode of all the Treks for these many years.

Sure, its a dirty, thankless job, but some Old Corps Jarheads need a quest after their knees and back go mushy.

Getting old suck!

BTW, are you Hawkeye Pierce's girlfriend?

The Star Trek franchise needs a break. The audience is too Trekked out. I never bothered to watch Enterprise until I saw a FR thread a few weeks ago about Enterprise's AIDS episode. This made me want to watch the episode. In Chicago, Enterprise is shown on Wednesday and re-run on Sunday. After viewing the AIDS episode, I could believe how PC Star Trek has become. Few Vulcans can mind-meld in Archer's era, yet every Vulcan can mind-meld in Captian Kirk's time? Talk about revisonist history! Also, I suppose the Vuclan character in Enterprise is soon going to come out as a lesbian mind-melder. The Star Trek series is more interested in promoting political correctness than writing good sci-fi tales. This is why I don't watch Star Trek anymore.

The best thing would be for Paramount to find someone other than Berman and Braga to run the franchise.

Agreed. Even a modicum of respect for the timeline would have kept me interested.

What made "The Wrath of Khan" work was that it stuck to the original background story. Khan nurses an obsession over Kirk for years while marooned on Ceti Alpha V. Yes, it did have the Chekov continuity error, but that's minor, and it can be argued that while he wasn't in the original episode, he could have been a member of the crew working in a different part of the ship. But the point is, they stuck to the original timeline and provided some continuity. All of the subsequent movies, good(IV and VI), bad(III), and ugly(V) built on that same timeline.

"Nemesis" failed for the exact same reason. It threw the TNG background out the window in favor of a contrived storyline that was almost comical in its absurdity. I don't remember the name of the original episode, but Picard was two things that his cloned buddy wasn't. He was a hell-raiser at the academy who got into a fight and has an artificial heart as a result. And he had hair. In other words, he was your normal 24th century college student, not some control-freak Yul Brenner wannabe.

I give credit to "Voyager" for at least making an effort to stick within one timeline, although the touchy-feely PC was almost too much to take.

Yes, I enjoyed it to - and I am pretty much Sci-Fied out.
Science Fiction, Like the Western is really about using a remoter time to meditate on the condition of man. I thought that Firefly was a return turn to the roots of Sci-Fi, though unfortunatly it was cancelled before there was any real development.

Kirk on the old series was the best. Brannon and Braga changed every bit of important Trek history. In TOS timeline, we explored the solar system and built civilization there. We then extended our reach with a manned voyage to Alpha Centauri where Zefrem Cochrane was one of the Alpha Centauri scientists that showed us the secrets of warp theory. We almost had our first warp capable ships constructed by the time the first interstellar expedition rerturned to Earth. We soon sent our first warp-capable starships to Epsilon Eridani which was the home system of the Vulcans. We went to them first, not the other way around. We were a powerful, technically competent and expanding civilization. Not some burned out post-apocalyptic third world planet that needed saving from the Vulcans. B&B's rewriting of Trek canon disgusted me, it's totally PC nonsense.Humans are only capable of destroying, not building great civilizations, in their view. IMO this is blatant disrespect to the philosophy of Rodenberry, his was a philosophy that believed in the best qualities of the human/American spirit to make a better life for mankind. They have pretty much spit on his grave, and I'm pretty fed-up with the PC Trek nonsense. TOS was the only true Trek that respected Rodenberry's vision.

Top Ten Reasons Why The Three Stooges Could Easily Take Command of the Enterprise

10) Troi would not comprehend their emotions: "Captain, I sense...whoo! whoo! ...You numbskull.... Why, I oughta..."
9) Riker will be reduced to tears when they call him "Fat Boy."
8) Transporter. Cream pie. You get the picture.
7) Curly could jam turbolifts with his head, rendering security unable to leave their deck.
6) Larry, Moe and Curly have already been where no man has been before.
5) The Enterprise crew will be mesmerized by Curly as he does the curly shuffle, and Moe and Larry will take control of the ship.
4) Wesley won't be there to save the Enterprise in the last few minutes with something he learned in science class.
3) Picard doesn't know The Block.
2) If Curly can take a lead pipe to the head, he's just going to laugh at a phaser on stun.
1) Any stooge can outrun Enterprise security.

I always liked that line from the Ferengi about hoo-mans...
"They shamelessly clothe their females." The Ferengi home world must be an interesting place!
