The silver lining is that now we can filibuster their nominees.

Sure, except that the currently silent media will be blasting the Republicans 7X24.

No, Estrada is doomed.

Do you remember, when just days before the election, the Dems pulled out the DWI on Bush? Many here protested loudly that he didn't have a chance. And then there was more pessimism when the Florida shenanegans went on, many saying that there was no hope. And then more whining when the appeals went before a democrat judge, and then the florida supreme court (no capitals necessary as it isn't a proper noun, and the adjective surely doen't agree with the noun either!), and then the US Supreme Court, and then even more when we finally got the majority in the Senate. And the naysayers and doomsdayers were convinced that we had lost the war before it started in Afghanistan, and there was no hope when the anthrax was going on, and surely the world was ready to end when the "white supremists" were shooting all sorts of innocent folks in the DC area, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

We have fallen prey to paying attention to the incredibly negative cast that is thrown by the false light that emanates from our television sets, and the empty words that blythely spew out of the lips of those hardened folks who don't even know what the definition of "IS" is. (How could they be expected to understand the awesomeness of the "I AM" when they can't even agree on the definition of "to exist?")

Our President has a plan. I do not know many details, but it is an awesome plan. Mainly because it's not his plan, but His plan. I am not worried about the Estrada nomination, or the war in Iraq, even though I'm being sent there myself shortly, because I know that our President asks for God's wisdom daily, and our country will be blessed for his faithfulness. I do not fear to follow this Leader into battle, because he is first a Follower.

Evil is being unleashed at a furious pace, and I would be a fool to think differently, but evil cannot stand to be exposed to the light, and after watching the CSpan debate last night, it was simple, for those with eyes to see, that the issue in the Senate is Truth versus distortions, falsehoods and baldfaced lies, and Truth will out. Our President speaks the truth, and even does it in love, in an humble manner.

I would like to suggest to the woe-is-me's out there to just pause a moment to think back and see how well things have turned out in our government in spite of the overwhelming obstacles, and then think before you speak, or post, because as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

The absolutely best thing that we can do for our country is to believe in the truth, and to pray often for our President and his family; for wisdom and protection, and encourage each other to keep the Faith. Pray for and encourage our troops, and if you know any that are deployed or otherwise serving, pray for them, but more importantly, help and pray for their family members that are left behind. They don't hear or see anything encouraging on the news (what a surprise), and a mighty battle is being waged against them also. Friends here haven't heard from their deployed family members for over a month, by either phone or letters. Trust me, the families sacrifice more greatly than the service member.

Some may suppose that this war is being conducted overseas, but are easily deluded, because the real battlefield is right here, right now, and the main point of attack is your own very heart and soul. The enemy is trying to discourage YOU. Or to be very, very obvious, to TERRORIZE YOU, your families, friends and neighbors. So encourage one another, help someone out, go out of your way to care for someone today, pray for our leaders, do something, but don't fall into the trap that the enemy has laid for our country.

Sinkspur, this is not a personal attack, but an observation, an attempt to encourage you and thousands of others to realize that this is War, and everyone has a duty and responsibiliy to participate, even if you don't raise your right hand and swear to defend our Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

There will be setbacks for sure, but be encouraged, and most of all, find someone else to encourage. But find something positive to do, and then DO IT.

Wow! That was an excellent rant, and now I'm sorry I gave up on FR earlier. I got so disgusted with the opportunists and hand-wringers that I cut out for a while. I should have known better......

I had an opportunity to watch the replay of Brit Hume. I am glad I did. Frist was far from showing an air of defeat. He said there would definitely be a cloture vote. He said the vote was necessary to record those that supported the filibuster. He said the cloture was the BEGINNING of the battle, not the end. It would show them who to work on. He said his sense was that the Dems were "entrenched". He said we are going to drag them out of those trenches. He said it might take days or weeks or months, but "our job is to drag them out of the trenches."

The future will show us whether Estrada is confirmed, but I am absolutely convinced-- win or lose-- Bill Frist intends to leave the Senate Democrats a bloody pulp when the fight is done.

If the Dems succeed, they will have made NARAL happy. They will also hold accountability for denying a good man a fair vote, denying a Hispanic the highest judicial seat ever achieved by a member of that minority group, damaging the Constitution, and politicizing the judicial selection process beyond any reasonable hope for repair.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words, and for your service to our country! I am going to be copying your post (with credit to you) and postingit on another thread today.

For those of us who do not live near military posts or bases, could you suggest a practical way to help families left behind? Is there an organization we can donate to, or a coordinated effort to offer assistance? It is so frustrating to want to help and not have the means! I do keep all families and servicepeople in my prayers, but sometimes it helps to be able to DO something.

Thank you again for this post, and God bless you.

I watched the replay of Brit Hume, also, and agree completely with your conclusions.

Could be that part of the delay is to allow Hatch time to mellow out after THIS! :-)

Trombone - Thanks. Your #363 is wonderful.

Have a great day, all.

The Estrada obstruction attempt belies a war that I am afraid we are not prepared to win. I do not believe that the senators realize the extent of the battle. If the Rats are intent on defying an extremely qualified hispanic, with the potential backlash, the ability for Bush to appoint his judges would be compromised, particularly with respect to the Supreme Court.

Two Problems with that statement.

You are thinking that the senators don't realise the extent the rats are going to go, but you are not accounting for the President.

Secondly, It is the Rats that dont realize the tactics being used.

In all probability it looks something like this...

This is allowed to play out with Frist picking off enough Dems, or pushing it to a 24/7 filibuster, BUT the Press, and public damage is already done, there are numerous editorialss decrying this action.

When a Scotus slot opens up, and it probably will between this Nov and Jan, Bush will probably nominate Justic Janice Rogers Brown, an African American Conservative Jurist, from California. If they go this route, closing in on an election year, the first shots fired by Frist, will be a thorough recounting of the Estrada episode....and no 3 weeks of dicking around, they will be forced to a nationally spotlighted 24/7 filibuster.

Then we get to see what kind of Balls they really have.

Sounds like "living document" hogwash to me. 51 is still a majority unless I missed an ammendment.

No you did not.

What is being overlooked here is a principle, that you will not find written IN the Constitution.IT is the reason For the Constitution.

What you are missing, is the opinion of the Ultimate Decision maker. The Electorate.

The Rules are what they are, but even a cursory reading of the Federalist papers, shows that the Framers always took into account, that if one side, or one branch became abusive of its trusts, that it would suffer the wrath of public opinion, and thus could the wrong be righted.

And Certainly, the current record shows, the Electorate is wearying of Democratic Demagoguery and Dirty Deeds.

You know, we already have 4 or 5 dems willing to not be extreme leftists, there is a distinct possiblity we could expand the majority by 3 or 4 seats this year.....which will also spell the end of Daschle, and of the patry doesn't realign, the Party itself.

Consider for a moment what a dramatic Political shift that could be....If the socialist wing is marginalized, moving the rest of the Left closer to the center, that allows the right to stretch out a bit towards it's libertarian roots.....(more Ron Paul is a Good thing!)

That would be a Tremendous Conservative Legacy for this President.

Actually, 373 was a pretty honest assesment of the kind of strategery the Bush team has shown so far.

375, was the positive thinking moment.

Hope the half full glass group of naysayers on here read and comprehend.

I finally decided to strike back last night -- on one thread I told someone to stuff it and was tired of the pipsqueaks coming onto to FR from RATs.com.

Had another one complaining about the glass half empty folks that seem to try and dominate these threads at night.

Since Leahy has put up the bar -- No Successful Hispanics Need Apply to be Judges, I think we should put No Half Empty Glass people allowed on these threads.

Cannot believe some of what I read on here last night. Bad enough FR was slow as mollases but to have to put up with doom and gloom was too much. I finally left early too as I had been here until the wee hours of the morning when the Senate finally adjourned. I hate it when people tell me what I witnessed on the floor of the Senate and they were not even watching.

Wish there was a way to make naysayers just "be gone!"

My mini rant this morning!

I'm With you PKM!!!!!!

Look, the naysayers, and D&G crowd, obviously lack the requisite intelligence to fully comprehend the breathtaking political ability of this Administration.
