Darryl Worley's new Pro War Song "Have You Forgotten"
Self ^ | 3/1/03 | One Vike

Posted on 03/01/2003 11:50:36 AM PST by OneVike

Country artist Darryl Worley's new war song "Have You Forgotten" debuts on this week's country chart at No. 43. Darryl takes a swipe at the media for telling us we can't handle the images of 9/11 so they quit showing it. He also takes to task all those who forgot about the "WHY' behind our war.

Even if you are not a Country music fan, this song will strike a cord with you. I for one found a home in Country music because they are closer to ideals I believe in then any other genre of music. Besides, I do believe that a majority of Country musicians are behind Bush and this war. Lets light up the radio stations and request this song be played so everyone will remember. If we cannot get television to remind people maybe we can get radio stations to.

If you go to his WEB site you can download the song and hear what I mean. It took me about 10 min. with a connection speed of 43000 bps. the song is about 4 min. long. He actually lets you download the song for free, I have it saved to disc.

Since Darryl is offering his song for free, I am currently sharing it on the Kazaa network. Just search for "Darryl Worley Have You Forgotten". I also have a live version that he recently sang at the Grand Ole Opry.

BTW, I'm getting the album and you should too!

I hestitate to call anybody or anything "Pro-War". You can call them Pro-Bush, Pro-U.S. Policy, Pro-American. But I don't think anybody is Pro-War.

Good point, I will make it a point to remember it is a Pro-Bush stance. By the way I do plan on buying his album when it comes out in May.

I discovered DW's song "Family Tree" by accident flipping stations on the radio. I was an instant fan of his. Heck, I'm probably a not-so distant cousin of his.

I usually don't like country music but I heard this song on the radio the other day (Liddy show?) and liked it right away. I think I'll download it and save it. Thanks for the post.

I have a love/hate relationship with modern country music. So much of it is utter disposable crap. But there are some real gems to be mined. I've put together some awesome compiliation discs of good country music but it's so hard to justify buying many country albums, as they are usually two or three songs surrounded by filler. For some reason, country artists sign contracts that mandate an album a year so quality goes right out the window and the Nashville "assembly line" process cranks out the cookie-cutter albums. As a result, I usually just wait for the "Greatest Hits" albums.

LYRICS

HAVE YOU FORGOTTON ?

I hear people saying we don't need this war

I say there's some things worth fighting for

What about our freedom and this piece of ground

We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down

They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in

Before you start your preaching let me ask you this my friend

Chorus

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?

To see your homeland under fire

And her people blown away

Have you forgotten when those towers fell?

We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell

And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden

Have you forgotten?

Verse

They took all the footage off my T.V.

Said it's too disturbing for you and me

It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say

If it was up to me I'd show it everyday

Some say this country's just out looking for a fight

After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

Repeat chorus

Bridge

I've been there with the soldiers

Who've gone away to war

And you can bet that they remember

Just what they're fighting for

Chorus 3

Have you forgotten all the people killed?

Some went down like heros in that Pennsylvania field

Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?

All the loved ones that we lost and those left to carry on

Don't you tell me not to worry about bin Laden

Have you forgotten?

Tag

Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?

I'm not a big fan of country music either, but when it comes to American patriot music you can't beat them. And I'm proud to be an American, born in the USA.

Bump.

Heard this song on a Boston country station yesterday (99.5 FM). Then I listened to the mp3 again a couple of times this morning. I've been listening to music a long time and you can usually tell a big hit song within two or three times of hearing it - it's just got "that feel" to it. Well this song has number one written all over it. Download the MP3 today and then buy the album when it comes out (April, I think).

They are playing the hell out of this song on 99.5FM in Boston. I heard it three times yesterday alone. This will be number one (on the Country charts) by the middle of April, I predict.

TRAVELING SOLDIER - DIXIE CHICKS

Two days past eighteen
He's waitin' for the bus in his Army greens
Sat down in a booth at a Cafe there
Gave his order to a girl with a bow in her hair
He's a little shy so she gave him a smile
He said Would you mind sitting down for awhile
And talking to me? I'm feeling a little alone"

She said I'm off in an hour
and I know where we could go
So they went down and they sat on the pier
He said I bet you got a boyfriend but I don't care
I've got no one to send a letter to
Would you mind if I sent one back here to you?

CHORUS
I Cried, Never gonna hold the hand of another guy
Too Young for him they told her
Waiting for the love of a traveling soldier
Our love will never end
Waiting for the soldier to come back again
Never More to be alone
When the letter says my soldier's coming home

So the letters came from an Army Camp
In California, then Vietnam
And he told her of his heart, it might be love
And all of the things he was so scared of
He said, When it's gettin kinda rough over here
I think of that day sitting down at the pier
I close my eyes and see your pretty smile
Don't Worry, I won't be able to write for awhile

CHORUS
One friday night at a football game
The Lord's Prayer said and the anthems sang
A man said folks, would you bow your heads
For a list of local vietnam dead
Crying all alone under the stands
Was the piccolo player and the marching band
And One name read, and nobody cared
But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair

CHORUS

I loved many of the "pro-American" songs written and released by country musicians over the past two years such as Toby Keith's, Alan Jackson's and Arron Tippin's. However, I don not particularly like this one. It all came down to his corus and this line:

And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden

This war he speaks of in the opening lines is against the country of Iraq, not Bin Laden. I dont believe many people were against us getting Bin Laden or the terrorists. People are against a war with Iraq and 9/11 being used as the justification. People such as Mr. Wroley have fallen for the "bait and switch".

Alan Jackson and Tobty Keith wrote great songs with great meaning. This song falls terribly short and is essentially the same previous mantra revived into "if you oppose a war with Iraq, you are spitting on the graves of heros". Mr. Worley has written some fine songs. This isn't one of them in my opinion.

And I think the people who want the Hollywood leftists to shut their mouths when it comes to politics should say the same to those who may support their views.

Bump! According to Hannity, this guy is getting blacklisted by the music/radio industry for daring to put out this patriotic song. I wish we could send a message to those who would stifle this man's words.

If you listen closely to the 2nd chorus of Darryl Worley's newest hit 'Have You Forgotten', he repeats all but the one line in chorus 1 ... but that one single line-change is critical in order to understand what the writer is saying ... and a key for Anti-War-in-Iraq folks to understand:

Chorus 2:
Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
Too see your homeland under fire and her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going through a living hell
And we vow to get the ones behind Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

This line is critical to understanding the song and WHY we MUST go after Saddam .... HE is one of the main supporters / suppliers / facilitators / organizers and encouragers of bin Laden, Al-Qeada and so many of the rest of the Terrorists & America/Israel hater-types in not just that area, but around the world.

I hope this will help you understand the lyric as the writers intended, and perhaps you will agree it is well thought our AND well written, in addition to being a strong statement of support for our Troops.
