A gay-rights group says it plans to meet with NBC chairman Robert Wright this week in a last-minute attempt to head off Saturday's TV debut of controversial radio talk show host Michael Savage.
Savage, who's accused by gay and women's groups of being "homophobic, racist and sexist," is part of a new lineup for cable's struggling MSNBC, a joint project of NBC and Microsoft.

so he's being censored because of name calling?

To: DeepInEnemyTerritory
Savage will soon have the best ratings on MSNBC.
All this publicity is a bonanza for getting people to tune into Savage.

These radical leftist groups are trying to be my TV censor and they need to be stopped. Even if you think Savage is a blowhard, I hope you still support Savage in his upcoming battle to ensure this does not happen again. Note that the same people are also trying to shut down Rush and OReilly.
To: DeepInEnemyTerritory
This problem has arisen for one reason -- Michael Savage changed his name from Michael Weiner. If he had stayed with his real name and called his program "Weiner Nation," all the queers would be fans.
To: PhilDragoo
Imagine the thought of having two Fair and Balanced 24 hour cable networks....
If Savage isn't watered down, and MSNBC lets him run with it, they may change the entire network in order to save it.
Foxnews will get some competition. We all know that competition is great!

Hi, I'm Bill O'Reilly. Thank you for watching us tonight.
I made a mistake yesterday. Can you believe it? That's the subject of this evening's Talking Points Memo.

"homophobic, racist and sexist," Liberals need new talking points.
After repeating the same worn-out accusations for half a century, it's time to play another CD track.

I saw that Mr. Savage got labeled a bigot in another story. The author didn't even back up his charge.
I've never heard Mr. Savage. Can anyone enlighten me on why these charges are being leveled against him? I assume he's conservative, but racist, sexist and homophobic? How pray tell?

But you should say "Weiner" as "Viner" for the correct German pronunciation.

--- yes Lady Lawyer you are correct. All the "packers" get their tummies in a twitter when a voice (of truth) loud enough to be heard begins to break through their propaganda screen.

Michael Savage changed his name from Michael Weiner
Where do you get that, please? Savage says he is the child of Russian immigrants and Savage is the family name. Not that unusual... think Jessica Savitch. What is the source of your statement?

Savage is not his real last name. His son is Russel Weiner, who ran for congress in California.

I heard him for the first time last saturday evening. He sounded pretty good to me. If the GayNazis are against him, he can't be all bad.
When he said, "If I have too, I'll mobilize my six million followers..." I said to myself, "Six million and one!"
To: johnb838
There was an article about it a couple of weeks ago. I think it was in the NY Post, but I don't remember for sure.

Think Bob Grant with a New Yawk accent and twice as hyper and you're pretty close to Savage.
I listen occasionally and agree with his viewpoints by and large, but his hard hitting, passionate style is not the one I prefer. I like the comic relief offered by Rush and Drudge better. Even Hannity gets too serious and hard-edged for me at times.

I don't know if Savage can survive national TV honestly... used to listen to him out in Bay... he's is definately a free thinker, not just another RNC memo parrot, which I liked, but some of his conclusions were almost mother ship Farrakahnish.... so we'll see how it goes. Personally I think MSNBC is going to have a hard sell with Savage on TV... of course, anything has to be better than Donahue.
To: TLBSHOW
I just bought his book yesterday (and finally, Ann Coulter's Slander)....my little contribution to the conservative cause.... : )

When an MSNBC s**tcans a Donahue and replaces his little pink bottom with a meat-eating Conservative like Savage, it actually gives me hope for America.
To: DeepInEnemyTerritory
I hope and pray that MSNBC pulls the plug on his show. Then FNC signs him to replace reGreta in the 10 p.m. slot. It would be poetic justice.

The best way I can describe him is a "bombastic patriot"
His message is borders, culture, language.
My point earlier was it does not matter whether you like him or not but groups like GLAAD are hypocritical. There is no toleance on their side, they hate very conservative people, they managed to get rid of Dr. Laura for the same reason.

It is a FACT that the average age of death for gay men is years lower than for heterosexuals. Like it or not.
To: Emmylou
Savage has bigger fish to fry than gays and lesbians. He's not really interested in questioning the lifestyle, a la Dr. Laura. But if homosexuals have a problem with him defending the Boy Scouts, they will take issue with him.

You're right, of course -- the intolerance of Savage's distractors is palpable. As I recall, on Friday he credited his support of the Boy Scouts for instigating the present attacks against him, and proceeded to reaffirm his support of the Boy Scouts.
