LOMA LINDA, Calif. (AP) - When Major Hal Sellers learned his infant son was living on borrowed time awaiting a heart transplant, the Marine and his wife had to choose between duty to family and to nation. Sellers "did a lot of soul-searching" when the time came to decide, said his wife, Betsy Sellers. Unable to help the youngest of the couple's three sons, he chose to help his unit, she said.

Oh, man! This family has to make an awful choice. They made a selfless choice, and I pray that somehow it will all turn out well.

Man, that's tough. I hope that his wife will be understanding if they lose the boy and he's not there to help her though it. Good marriages can be lost on less, best intentions of both parties notwithstanding.

On the other hand, I'm sure that Marine could not forgive himself if he traded the job where he could save lives (as batallion XO) for the job where he could only watch and hope (dad of a sick boy), and his unit took casualties.

Offered a desk job at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, the 13-year veteran opted to go with the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion to an undisclosed location in the Middle East.

God Bless you Sir, we will pray for your safe return and the health of your son.

I'm so glad this is getting publicized. People tend to forget just exactly what "sacrifice" entails. Some think of it as a "sacrifice of time and location" - but there's also sacrifices like the one this MARINE! made.

I hope somebody can get this thread to Major Sellers so that he can see how much he is appreciated and admired for his courageous decision.

GOD BLESS THAT MARINE! AND ALL OUR OTHER MILITARY PERSONNEL AS THEY GO INTO HARM'S WAY. Amen

It doesn't say anything about it in the article, but I wonder if perhaps this Marine didn't leave his son's life to God, having faith that if he did his duty, and let God's will be done, all things would work together for ultimate good.
