That sounds good. Where did you get it?

"Inventing A Girl"
Is that a remake of "Wierd Science"?

I'd much rather have a civilized child than a socialized one. :o) We have a t-shirt that says "I'm not socialized--I'm civilized." I love that shirt! Unfortunately, when it got passed down to my third son, I had to be careful that he didn't wear it in public. He's an impetuous little kid!

BTTT! You are right.

I have my doubts, but, then again I don't have children to raise either. I've known many children who have graduated from their home schools and have had no trouble learning the ropes in the real world. I'm also sure there will be studies that will reveal that these kids do fine.

So now, at least once a week, I swear at him, show him dirty pictures, offer him drugs, beat him up and steal his lunch money just so he doesn't miss out." OMGosh, that's great! ROFL! I love it. Can I steal it and put it in my profile? LOL

The only drawback to homeschooling (if parents do it well) is no snow days. I give my kids snow days! I remember the thrill of getting days off for snow and I give that same thrill to my kids.

I like your quote there. I've seen you say that before. So true!
To: SpookBrat; cantfindagoodscreenname
I love it too. Sure, go ahead -- thought cantfindagoodscreenname says it's an oldie. (But then, can you really believe someone who... cantfindagoodscreenname?)

SOCIALIZATION!!
My favorite reply is: "Oh?!, well you know, we're not socialists...</straight face>"
You would be amazed at how many women say: "Oh! I sure am. I love socializing :-D </big goofy grin>"

One graduated (and starting college) and three others homeschooling BUMP!

Homeschooling critics worry that homeschooled children don't learn the social skills to be had from interacting with other children. Considering the polite manner and intelligent questions asked by every homeschool-kid I've met, I have to unequivically say the socialization to be had by interacting with other little terrors in public school is over-rated to say the least. I've been impressed with every one I've met, and this is not exaggeration. My wife and I went out to eat with a casual acquaintence who homeschools their children, and we were pleasantly suprised. They were asking us political questions, questions about our jobs, etc. "Wow," I though. "They seemed like people, for goodness sakes, not wild little animals -- unlike some of the other children I've met." Having talked to a few other children met my chance, the opinion is reinforced.
This is not to say that people who pull their kids out of public school can't possibly make mistakes, or neglect their children in some way, but I really have to question the "socialization" that some so-called "critics" of homeschooling are suggesting that homeschool kids lack. Children are not missing out on some sorely needed social skill without which they will be scarred for life.
I've been talking it over with my wife and our kids are going to private school or we're going to do it ourselves. My own recollection of public school leaves much to be desired, and if they're anything like what I remember LC Junior can do without all that "socialization."

OK, let's do some equivalency quality testing here, shall we?
Real World = All co workers are the same age as you, within a few months plus or minus.
Real World = Need permission to use the rest room.
Real World = Work paced to the rate of the worst employee.
Real World = Advancement based on doing just enough to get by.
Real World = Daily threats of violence or actual verbal harassment in the workplace, with little recourse.
Real World = Sexual Harassment with little recourse.
Real World = Physically intimidating people, felons, drug users lauded by peers.
Guys, do you work in prisons?

Good point here. Popular culture or cool culture is a variant of the criminal subculture carried into schools by change agents, the most physical and aggressive individuals- the gangsters and druggies who are praised by the other kids. Get your kid out of this hostile environment. The culture of kids should be the culture of their parents. Popular music should be what Grandpa likes not what Phil Spector dredged up from the criminal/cool underworld.

Check the profile dude. My kids will NEVER see a government school this side of college...

John, I'd like to nominate Reply #2 for quote of the day/week/whatever. It's classic.
Favorite Reply Two: yeah, I got to feeling really guilty about what my boy was missing out in terms of socialization, by not attending government school. So now, at least once a week, I swear at him, show him dirty pictures, offer him drugs, beat him up and steal his lunch money just so he doesn't miss out.
