Here you have a group of people who have demonstrated a willingness to work, and a history of NOT getting assistance from the government, but we will teach them to be dependent.
I can nearly guarantee you that they will be off whatever assistance they may get faster than you garden variety, homegrown welfare queen will.
So, is the problem that these people will have access to these programs, or that these programs exist?

Obviously, you are not familiar with the Somalian refugee problem in America.

You seem to be ducking the question Luis Gonzalez is asking.

I'm reading about THIS bunch of refugees, and how they are being handled.
I have read about other towns where recent arrivals have created a stir, but this seems to be better organized.
You didn't answer my question, every single program that you listed, is available to every person in the US.
Don't you think that's the problem?

Yes but that doesn't mean that this isn't a problem as well.

So, work to eliminate the damn programs then. What about the American citizens who truly need these programs?

I checked the link, and found this:
"'A tolerant community' Neo-Nazi group is dwarfed at Lewiston rally By ANN S. KIM, Associated Press Writer LEWISTON More than 4,000 people turned out for a rally urging Mainers to reject racism and embrace a new wave of immigrants Saturday while a small number of white supremacists who have called for the expulsion of Somalis gathered three miles away."
I don't think that's what you meant for me to find...or was it?

So then, what you are saying is that these Somalis need to become citizens before having access to these programs?
Is this a reward for citizenship?

It's a non-sequitor. Because the programs there are, as Luis Gonzalez explained, available to everyone. And, as the inner cities have shown, they are quite capable of devastating Americna families, too.
This attitude towards these people is insulting - and proceeds to hand ammo to an Al Sharpton or someone of that ilk - ammo that gets used to label people like mhking as "sellouts" or worse.
Now, would you care to answer the question Luis Gonzalez asked?

Cut 'em a check, Luis. If you want 'em, you can pay for 'em.

One more thing, if people truly need help, I don't mind giving them help.
I would prefer to qualify assistance by need, rather than citizenship.

I would say that the years of results from the Great Society prove that ANY person, immigrant or American citizen, has about as much need for those programs as they have for a sucking chest wound.

I do, as does everyone else.
But you are ignoring the portion of the article that lists all the private organizations that will be helping them.
Why is that?

So then, what you are saying is that these Somalis need to become citizens before having access to these programs? Are you saying these Somalis won't be taking advantage of these programs?
Are you saying it's good to have massive resettlements of peoples into the US who historically take disproportionate advantage of these programs?

more of these freebies that will be gobbled down by more of these new and ever-breeding freeloaders.
You are over-reacting. Some of these quaint and colorful Muslim tribespeople only have 15 or less children, which isn't bad when spread out over 4 wives. Getting them here and setting them up to take jobs from our own native low-enders won't cost much either. Probably only $250,000 per family or so.
The taxes they pay on their new jobs will probably pay this paltry sum back in a matter of just a few centuries. So, what is your problem?
Oh wait, you're one of those people who think these folks might have been better off being settled in Africa, in some rich farming area? One which has been de-populated by AIDS?
Please, do us all a favor. When you feel thoughts like that coming on, go lie down. They will go away. Using common sense in these discussions is politically incorrect and could land you in a heap'o'trouble, boy.
