LA HABRA -- Antiwar protesters burned and ripped up flags, flowers and patriotic signs at a Sept. 11 memorial that residents erected on a fence along Whittier Boulevard days after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and have maintained ever since.

However, although officers witnessed the vandalism Saturday afternoon, police did not arrest three people seen damaging the display because they were "exercising the same freedom of speech that the people who put up the flags were,' La Habra Police Capt. John Rees said Monday.

"For this to be vandalism, there had to be an ill-will intent,' he said.

See my post 214 about the "conspiracy."

Incedentally I wrote the anti war protestor that spams me with this response
-------
Who are you?

What is COINTELPRO?

Why are none of these posters in the know decrying this horrible act rather than rationalizing it with tangents about oil?

Is everything, in fact, some conspiracy?

Have you, or anyone in your family, ever been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia?

How far above? La Habra Heights or Whittier Heights?

I believe this would be La Habra Heights... its just on the Orange Co/LA Co. border say 2 mile above the blvd. in the unincorporated area...nice hi end Ranch type home up there... very upper middle class

It could also have been one some of the criminal illegal aliens who have gangs there as well.

Not a chance. This was the work of white Mumia-Cong; no doubt financed by your tax dollars and Mom and Dad's hard work. Some of their nonwhite sycophants and house-slaves from the Aztlan libre mob may have participated, but this is strictly middle-class rebel-brat stuff.

No I was emailing the guy back how spammed me with what I posted in 214, I'd never gotten any spam from that address before, so it was a bit presumptuous to be writting me in the first place.

By the way Beck, I agree that CA, at least LA (which isn't representative of CA) is extrodinarily Left and any rationalization of that fact is unnecessarily defensive.

That being said, I understand that you are trying to be funny with a couple of people on here upset, but they aren't getting or aren't in the mood for the jokes so I would just cool it.

I would like to THANK ALL who have put into motion feelings and actions you have had by reading this story. Not to change subjects but these are the actions that TOM DASHEL want us to stop feeling by blocking free speech. IMO I never thought just by posting a story I would put into action those of like mindedness and can accomplish things I cannot alone by myself do.

John Kobelt and Ken Champou, hosts of "The John and Ken Show" on KFI radio AM640, Los Angeles, are discussing this
situation on the air.

They spoke to the owner of the property and the person who erected the display after 9/11. John and Ken each donated $100 and are encouraging others to donate to help erect a bigger and better memorial.

LOL, believe me, having the People's Republic of Southeast Florida (Dade, Palm Beach, and Broward counties) is no comfort to me. Not to mention we have the island of mini-San Fran to my South (Key West). So we have our freaks down here, that's for sure. The day us conservatives lose our sense of humor, it's time to shut down FR. In the mean time, God Bless you sir, and let me know if you need some red meat dropped behind that evil TOFU CURTAIN which has dropped across the border of the PRC.

In case you're serious, COINTELPRO was an FBI operation in which they infiltrated various groups and acted as agent provocateurs in order to make those groups look bad.

Somehow, even in Mayberry, if I were slashing flags on someone's property in direct view of Deputy Fife, I would expect said Deputy to at least ask what I was doing. That apparently didn't happen here. Why? Maybe the cops are as bad as they appear, or maybe there's something missing from this story.

It's is a run-down blighted part of town surrounded by illegal immigrants. It has a lot of poverty right there.

Listen bro, you don't have a clue.

I'll prove you wrong. This area is one of the nicest areas of east Whittier/La Habra. The memorial is almost right on the line that borders these two communities. Use a map book and check out the address of this home listed below for $420,000. This home is a 5 minute *walk*, literally right around the corner from the memorial. Use map blast, thomas guide, or whatever, this is a current listing.

This is not a poor area, unless you live in Brentwood! LOL!

Appeasement Activists Burn U.S. Flags, Trash 9/11 Memorial

Those Marxist-led appeasement demonstrators are showing their true colors: A gang of them in La-La Land ripped up American flags, flowers and patriotic signs at a Sept. 11 memorial.

And get this: The P.C.-crazed police officers in Whittier, Calif., witnessed the vandalism Saturday on private property but refused to arrest the criminals....

I just spoke to Debbie Pfeiffer on the phone, hoping to clarify what the police actually saw. Apparently officers witnessed relatively minor vandalism on Saturday afternoon, but did not interfere. The major destruction was committed Saturday night, and the police were called back more than once, but made no arrests. Whether they saw anything on those occasions isn't clear. Debbie wouldn't comment on who it was who saw the police watching during the afternoon -- reasonable enough for a reporter to protect her sources -- and wasn't aware of any photos of the events. She did reiterate that "free speech" was in fact the reason given by the police for refusing to protect the display or charge the vandals.

The area where the memorial is is NOT rundown. The street the memorial is on is a busy thoroughfare with lots of commerce. La Habra has many Hispanics, but according to voter registration sheets, it is 45% Republican. That's pretty good (for California).

Rundown, my ass. I'd love to live in La habra.

Actually, there are more than a few celebities in the Friendly Hills area of East Whittier. But mostly doctors, and business owners etc......Even homes south of Whittier Blvd in the area of the memorial are bringing 300,000 K.

We saw a video on the news a while ago that showed people putting the memorial back up, with flags etc....Good for them!

Anti-war protesters trash Sept. 11 memorial in LA suburb

The Associated Press

The trashing of a Sept. 11 memorial by anti-war protesters has angered people who created the display and prompted complaints about a lack of action by police.

Jeff Collison said Tuesday he intends to file a complaint against protesters seen burning and ripping up flags, flowers and patriotic signs decorating a chain link fence at his rental car lot in the suburb east of Los Angeles.

The demonstrators went beyond exercising their rights during the Saturday afternoon protest, he said.

"Apparently the police are telling me it's a constitutional right to vandalize my property," he said. "I don't think I can go over to your house, trash it and be protected under the First Amendment."

In a story published Tuesday by the Whittier Daily News, police Capt. John Rees said demonstrators were exercising their right to freedom of speech - just as those who erected the memorial had done.....

Thanks for calling.

I'm just talking out loud here but how does this even fall under Free Speech (the destruction)?

The items destroyed were more or less donated to the owner of the property. It was then his decision on what to do with the items. He, the owner, elected to leave them where the people placed them.

The fact that someone TRESPASSED AND DESTROYED PRIVET PROPERTY should be punished to the full extend of the law!

In that previous post of mine (#289), POLICE STATEMENT I overlooked (sorry):

in a prepared statement Tuesday, the La Habra Police Department said it was "actively seeking the individual(s) responsible for these crimes" and asked for the public's help in finding them.

Neither Rees nor a spokeswoman for the department immediately returned phone calls on Tuesday.

However, in a prepared statement Tuesday, the La Habra Police Department said it was "actively seeking the individual(s) responsible for these crimes" and asked for the public's help in finding them.

Attention: Street cops no long have the ability to recognize CRIMES and must be told afterwards by their supervisor what is or is not a CRIME.
