GreenPeace Costs Houstonians Thousands
The major media may have a different slant, but when I saw the manpower that it took to arrest the Greenpeace protesters at DOW in Houston today one thing that made my blood boil was how much it was costing Houstonians to arrest these domestic terrorists.
I don't know if I saw all the protesters but there were two chained to a rear gate a three more that had blocked a driveway with a truck and somehow secured their hands inside barrels.
I hope the City of Houston recovers the cost of the operation to arrest these protesters.

As always, a FReep mail will get you on or off this Houston topics ping list.

They're lawbreakers.
Groups like this (especially this one) concern me because they may eventually resort to more violent means to gain attention to themselves.
I think they should be given about a million hours of community service to keep them busy and out of trouble.
No, but they have money. . . matching printed coveralls, rented truck, a "coordinator" on the scene (she gave them all hugs before they were hauled off to jail).
It is amusing but so many police and firemen were tied up there for no good reason.
I assume they are funded through private contributions, right? Is there any way we can learn who funds these kinds of activities?
If a lowly DOW employee should violate DOW policy and in the process, violate some law, it is DOW that pays the fine, not the employee. Granted, the employee might lose his job. But, the fine is paid by DOW.
Why then, does the law only go after the individual protesters, when in most cases, a direct line of motivation, method and intent (otherwise known as "conspiracy") can be drawn directly back to some left wing organization, with a healthy bank account and said organization is training the individuals in how break the law in a way that will not send them to jail for more than a day, providing attorneys and paying the relatively small fines of the individuals? Such actions are clearly conspiracy.
I have no problem with ignorant liberals, who want to get out and strut their ignorance once in a while, as long as they don't break the law. But, when they are a part of an organized conspiracy, led by a well heeled organization, that encourages, trains and funds the individual conspirators and whose management is trying to shield their complicity behind the individuals involved, the law should go after the organization, in the same way that they go after corporations and organized crime bosses and with the same type of multimillion dollar fines that are routinely levied against corporations. And since, in most cases, prosecutors should be able to follow the line of guidance directly back to the source and prove conspiracy, they should then go after, not only the individual law-breakers at the protest site, but the eco-pimps at the top of the organization, on criminal charges, as well.
When the eco-pimps with the big salaries start going to jail and the individuals who committed the actual criminal acts have to spend months in jail on felony conspiracy charges, instead of spending a night in jail on a misdemeanor, this kind of stuff will end. But, until that happens, the taxpayers will just continue to pay the price for the inaction of our prosecutors and lawmakers, in not going after the eco-pimps at the top.
Yep. Who has contacts at the DA's office?
I wanted to go shake the fence and leave 'em dangling by their chains.
Add to that a lawn chair, a six pack and a garden hose and you've got a whole afternoon's worth of entertainment.

FR "So.. Y'all are chained up to the fence, huh?"
GP "Yeah, that's right, we're activists! (sniff)"
FR "You chained yourself to that fence???
GP "That's right, buddy, we're changing the world! (sniff)"
FR "Is that Y'alls fence?"
GP "It belongs to the big polluter, man.. the planet killers! (sniff)"
FR "Yep, I thought so. (Over shoulder) Hey, Y'all pull the SUV over here and pop the hood.. Grab those jumper-cables, I want to see something here...
Oh, and a friend of mine who still works at Dow told me an announcement went out to everyone in the building to start assessing man-hours lost due to this Greenpeace crap so that cost can be determined. Dow is in such financial straits that they even stopped providing coffee for employees at the beginning of the year...I have a feeling they're going to go after Greenpeace for some bucks. I sure hope so.
Yeah, if I could have talked DOW and HPD to turn off their video camers for just a few minutes. . .
I hope the City does, too. This was such a waste of OUR money.
You would just have been exercising your right to free speech,
making a statement for "More power to American industry!"

I like the way you think. :)
In an exchange at IndyMedia someone asked if I would pose a question on this thread. To keep things in context I include the four relevant posts. My posts are in red. The question is in the last post in bold blue. For doing this favor for Shannon I get double politeness points.

My money

I am urging the City of Houston to recover from Greenpeace the cost associated with this event.
Greenpeace - you want to protest, fine, but don't take money out of MY pocket to promote your cause.

Money Issue

[redacted]@yahoo.comI read the thread on Jim's link to the focus group.
There was alot of aggression including one guy who wouldn't hesitate to run over them since he has insurance. This kind of attitude is a typical upper-class "american" one. Kill them, I'm safe.
The thread is very disturbing.
Everyone seems upset about inconvenience and losing money. Obviously none of them have actually lived in a 'third world country" or a country where the US has been terrorizing.
How many of you are worried about the billions and billions of dollars its gonna cost to go to war on Iraq??? Who's grumbling about that????
Jim could you post that to the focus group, I don't want to have to sign in to post up...
Everyone seems upset about inconvenience and losing money.
It's more than the money, it involves law enforcement resources.
Imagine if while the Police were tied up with that foolishness, your mother down the block were beaten and robbed, maybe killed. Further, ALL of us pay the taxes that support law enforcement, and I for one prefer the LEO's to focus on crime, not ineffective juvenile silliness like Greenpeace wanna-be protesters chained to a gate.
Obviously none of them have actually lived in a 'third world country" or a country where the US has been terrorizing.
Name one. Provide a creditable source.
How many of you are worried about the billions and billions of dollars its gonna cost to go to war on Iraq???
National Defense has it's own budget, and is being correctly allocated in defense of our country. As an added bonus, we will liberate the oppresed citizens of Iraq who will be more than overjoyed to see Saddam toppled and expelled.
I hope this clarifies things a bit.
Hey Shannon: Read the message. It stated that I would SERIOUSLY THINK ABOUT, not "Wouldn't Hestitate". Can't you socialists read? Don't twist my words.
Jim: Don't bother to post my reply to the IndyMedia forum; to parody a former pro football player, they couldn't spell cat if you spotted them the "c" and "a".
