Folks in the San Francisco Bay Area may remember an incident some fifteen to twenty years ago in which a "peace" group named Nuremberg Actions led by Daniel "Pentagon Papers" Ellsberg attempted to block a train in Concord, CA (NE of San Francisco) supposedly carrying munitions headed for the Nicaraguan Contras, or some U.S.-supported armed troops in that region.

A guy named Brian Willson (no relation to either the singer or the talk-show host of the similar-sounding name) was seated along with a few others of the group on the railroad tracks, and as the train -- moving slowly and with whistle blaring -- approached the protestors in full view of everyone, they leaped off the tracks. Willson was a little too slow, and was slammed by the train, which dragged him for a good distance, shearing off his legs in the full view of his wife.

Of course, Willson and his family sued, saying that the train should have traveled slower knowing that there was a possibility that someone couldn't get away from the train, and paraplegic Willson got at least a million bucks.

The last I read about Willson, he was battling cancer. Alone. A few years after the incident, his wife left him.

For another woman.

I don't like to say "So what?" about anyone who dies (with the exception of perpetrators of honest-to-goodness mayhem), but it's really difficult for me to feel any sympathy for Corrie. I believe there is a way that people who really don't want to die live their lives, and those others who choose to reject common sense and the natural self-survival instinct have no one to blame but themselves. To clarify what I mean by that, consider this; I don't believe, for example, Amy Biehl fits this description, because she wasn't in South Africa to cause trouble -- on the other hand, lifelong bed-hopping scam artist/tramp Bonny Lee Bakley fits this definition perfectly. In the case of Corrie, she was in the region to join those whose support for suicide bombers and terrorists is unambiguous. Is her death supposed to make us stop and think about the actions of the Israelis when she died for the cause of defending those who virtually beatify Palestinians who slaughter innocent Jews?

I don't think so.

I remember that incident, having lived in Concord at the time. The train operator battled with depression/anxiety after that if I recall correctly. And I thought that Wilson moved to Mexico afterward in some sort of tax avoidance move.

As for Corrie, another Bay Area resident said it best "It's hard to hug a tree when you're in the middle of the desert."

Those two photos rank among the most disturbing and shocking images I have ever seen in my life.

A screaming, raging, ghoulish hate-spewing grim reaper: surrounded by sweet, innocent, and smiling children.

I'm sad she died. But I have absolutely no pity for those who attempt to corrupt the most innocent and non-political among us: our children. She should be teaching these children to play hop-scotch, not poisoning their minds with hatred and flag-burning.

I said the same thing to Mrs. Thunder this evening...I bet they name a building at TESC after her, and wouldn't be suprised if the Wa St legislature doesn't issue some sort of "proclaimation" extolling her virtues...

TESC: Your tax dollars at work, and play, in gaza...

>>>>>>>the sovereignty of God, as the loss of human life
does<<<<<<<

If God is Sovereign (and I believe that He is) then His hand was upon this incident--and yes ICor does come to mind--"does not rejoice in a wrong", but in many ways this is too poetic a justice to pass up for many (myself included).

Another passage that comes to mind is that one in Gen 12 "curse those who curse you"--you gotta admit, a bulldozer running over you is a pretty hefty curse...

Maybe some of her buddies will start looking at life as being more than a game now, and start a genuine search for deeper meaning, which will lead them straight to...Him. ><>

"They have become the beasts that they hate. Are we headed that way too?"

Your post is full of bull. Israel is at war with the Palestinians. Israel has every right to defend itself. If you see a bulldozer coming, you get out of the way. Geeze!

I'm sorry she died. I'll say some prayers for her parents to be comforted. But you know what? If she wasn't a communist, she would still be alive today to have a career, marry, have children, live a long life, whatever....

Socialisim = death

Good night and welcome to FR. :)

They sure did take a lot of pictures of her lying there. From all different angles. Very interesting group of friends that stand around taking pictures of you as you die.

From OPINIONJOURNAL.COM:

Terror Advocate Dies in Accident
Rachel Corrie, a 23-year-old terrorism advocate from Olympia, Wash., died in a bulldozer accident yesterday. Corrie was at fault in the accident, which occurred when she either stood or crouched in front of an Israeli Defense Forces bulldozer in Gaza, the Jerusalem Post reports:

The bulldozers were part of an IDF tunnel- and mine-clearing operation. The Rafah refugee camp borders Egypt, from which Palestinian terrorists smuggle in weapons and explosives. And according to interim peace accords, Israel has the right to operate in and secure the area.

Corrie not only backed anti-Israeli terrorism; she also hated America. An Associated Press photo shows Corrie, her face contorted with hate, burning a "mock U.S. flag" at a pro-Saddam rally last month. (Hat tip: Little Green Footballs.) Reuters reports on a "symbolic funeral" that drew some 1,000 Palestinian Arabs. One of them tells the "news" service: "We fly a U.S. flag today to show our support to all American peace lovers, those like Rachel." If she were still alive, no doubt she'd have burned the flag.

It's a shame that Rachel Corrie died the way she did. It's shameful that she lived the way she did.
