SpaceImaging.com ^ | October 7, 2002 | Hatteras

Posted on 03/18/2003 11:10:24 AM PST by Hatteras

The caption provided by SpaceImaging.com: "Baghdad, Iraq - This one-meter resolution image was collected by Space Imaging's IKONOS satellite on Oct. 7, 2002. The image shows the Memorial of the Unknown Solder (upper right) and the Sijood Palace with its peacock-shaped gardens along the Tigris River (lower left). The Sijood Palace was the first Presidential site to be inspected by U.N. authorities under U.N. resolution 1441 adopted on Nov. 8, 2002. IKONOS satellite imagery is being used by U.N. agencies as an inspection tool."

I posted this on a thread looking for maps of Iraq but I think it might need it's own thread. Save this and we'll do a compare this time next week.

The palace at the bottom looks rather like a dartboard.
Darts, anyone?

Not a bad layout for a guy who blames the USA for sanctions that starve the children and deprives them of medicine.

What a heartless creep.

I would guess the industrial looking building above and right of the palace in this photo is toast.

I'm imagining your "hole" with a nice cascading Tigris River running through it a la Niagra Falls...

Come to think of it, let's try to preserve it. It would a great future location for Donald Trump's new Forty Thieves Hotel and Casino...

Thanks for posting this. I didn't see the other thread.

What is that strange looking structure in the upper right? It looks like some kind of stadium or racetrack.

I could be wrong but I thought I read somewhere that building is the Baath Party Headquarters. It has a nice antenna tower sitting out in the parking lot. Hmmm, we can't have that now can we?

I believe that's what they identify as the "Memorial of the Unknown Soldier". I bet it blows up real good but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't touch it unless they had intelligence telling them there was a weapons vault or some such underneath it.
