GERMANTOWN, Wis. -- A mother ran over her 2-year-old son four times while backing the family van out of the driveway, but the toddler miraculously survived.

Dianne Anthony rode over her son Matthew's chest and legs repeatedly Tuesday with the 4,600-pound van, thinking that a landscape timber near her front lawn was blocking her way, Germantown Police Lt. Peter Hoell said.

This is a truly stupid woman. She might have at least checked after running over something the first time. If I am backing out of my driveway, there isn't supposed to be ANYTHING that I am going to run over, and I would be horrified to feel the vehicle go "thump" over some object.

I know accidents happen but this is just rediculous. I mean how many peices of landscaping timber do you know of that scream out in pain.

Thank God the child is OK. But this is a stupid accident. "I thought I was running into the wall so I backed up and hit it again, 4 times".

(Guilty grin). But when you look at this, doesn't it make your "smells like rotten fish" detector activate? This whole thing is absolutely suspicious.

She assumed she hit the landscape timber

Assuming her story is correct, she would purposely run her van over a landscape timber 3 more times after hitting it once?

Cars are especially dangerous when the nut behind the wheel falls off. Then you can't steer.

I don't think that she ever actually rolled completely over the child. It sounds like she kept rolling back to what she thought was a landscape timber planted adjacent to the driveway. She probably kept trying to steer around it until it became obvious it wasn't the timber that was hitting her tires.

You people are a bunch of vindictive thugs. It was an A-C-C-I-D-E-N-T.

If you want a risk-free utopia where every accident is punished, move to Cuba or France.

Last time I checked Landscapeing timbers don't screem out in pain when ran over.

She said at least 58 children died after similar accidents last year. This is truly an epidemic.

We absolutely must quit using children as landscape timbers. 58 have died already. How long must this go on?

Q: What do you call a child who's been used as a landscape timber?
