Her speech last night raised the bar for all elected leaders.

Not if nobody knows about it happened, it won't. Is there a link anywhere?

I agree, though, that Bush's speechwriters are farm-league quality.

Disagree. Excellent speech for its purpose. This is a thank you to the Marines. It is also a visit to comfort relatives of those who fell in battle. Cannot politicize it (singling out Edwards and Dole individually for applause) because that would be inappropriate, and also Edwards has supported the war and as much as I dislike him personally, you cannot sandbag a guy by doing that.

I think the President's speeches are excellent, and will be quoted long after we all are gone. If you wanted a blood and guts type of speech, that would have been highly inappropriate. Remember, Al Jazeera covered this live as well.

I don't see where either one of us said any such thing.

This is a real commander in chief. What the troops had to endure for 8 long years was Nightmare on Elm Street.

You said it Doug! It is SO obvious that our military men and women love and respect THIS commander in chief, as opposed to the previous one.

Thank God for George W. Bush!

Howlin, thanks for the ping.

We are so lucky......so very, very lucky that I don't think we will fully realize it for years.

One of the most outstanding things about this speech is that it showed the calm, unrelenting resolve of our Commander in Chief and the strong, emotional support he has from his troops.

He didn't need to do any more than he did. If you saw the interviews of the family members of Marines who were there, it did everything it needed to do........which is how this President operates.......not overkill, but to the point.

If anyone wants to watch it again (and perhaps reevaluate it?), you can see it on video at www.whitehouse.gov

The transcript is also available here for your re-evaluation of the calm profundity of what the Commander in Chief said today.

No thanks. I'm not here for Reeducation Camp.

*shaking head* Dear God, every once in a while something shines through the cracks that makes the AF crowd almost seem like they have a point. I'm one of the biggest fans of W on the planet, but I say one word questioning his speechwriters, some of the lowliest drones in the hive that is that White House, and real live Bushbots come out to attack.

Now I know how Simon Cowell feels.

Who are the men, one sitting, one standing, beside Rumsfeld? I know the others, just those two I don't.

I'm not 'attacking.' (please look carefully at the words I wrote, sir.).

I just watched the speech as the mother of a young son in theater, and I was profoundly moved by the reassuring tone and the words spoken, and I heard the wives of marines there who were as well.

Sorry if I offended you by asking that you listen to it again. You are obviously easily offended.

Hey, I love Simon Cowell

Don't you dare criticize a thing about our president. We are blessed to have him, faults and all.

There are always those who will not see. Too busy noticing a grain of sand out of place and miss the beauty of the beach.

HUGS AND PRAYERS.

Excuse me one minute.....

Are you bored because I was encouraged by the President's words today?

Are you bored because I have a son who is in harms way to keep you safe and free (even if it's to protect your freedom to be a jerk?)?

Or are you just feigning boredom to be 'cute' because I called you on your obvious and irrational hyper-sensitivity?

Please explain what part of my post bored you......... because if the answer to your question is that my son's putting his life on the line for your freedom puts you to sleep, I will be very angry with you for your abject ingratitude and lack of decency toward those of us who are sacrificing a great deal at this time.

If it's either of the other two, I will just ignore you as being totally irrelevant.

Thanks for both the HUGS and the PRAYERS OldFriend! They are both needed and appreciated!

And a good analogy of missing the stunning beauty of the beach because of the minor irritant of the sand.......almost makes you feel sorry for them, doesn't it?

They deserve to miss the beauty. They are miserable wretches who see only the defects and never the perfection of this world.

I wanted the recognition that the marines at Camp Lejune are more than just marines. I wanted him to talk about specific marines and their families. I wanted to see more America loving and awe for the service and sacrifice, not trite, general statements and bolierplate stuff. I wanted a speech that was written just for this occasion, not a cut and paste from all the stump speeches. The "love your neighbor like you would want to be loved yourself" line is more apt for a speech about volunteering. Of course, these are the ultimate volunteers, but they are doing more than donating 10 hours at a community center. They are putting their lives on the line. I wanted something like the Reagan speech, "These are the boys that took the beaches" speech.
I wanted soldier worship, deep emotion and personal comments made to the boys, the men that he is asking so much of.

But that's just Me!

No, I'm not miserable. I am a person that understands the moment. Sorry, that a cheese doodle, mailing it in performance didn't set my world on fire. I am critical because I want this President to succeed. You need to get past the soft bigotry of low expectations. I wanted a defining performance, and I got a speech that underwhelmed.

Just telling it like it is!!
