You said a mouthful.

God ("Allah") bless all good Arabs, Kurds and Afghans who have been essential to prosecuting the war on terror.

We are always going to be condemned and misconstrued by the small-minded. This entire "war" has proven beyond a doubt that we have no real "friends" on this planet outside our borders aside from Great Britain (and while it is true that a good many Brits have been pretty disappointing in their reaction, the same can be said of the 25% or so of Americans who seem to hate this country).

Vicente Fox and Mexico have been downright nauseating in their non-support of the USA, as has Chretien and Canada. I won't even get into "Old Europe."

Middle Eastern countries that ought to be cheering us on to Saddam's utter defeat are either silent, or downright cold toward us. That even goes for Saudi Arabia, who after 9/11 ought to be kissing our feet.

Russia, who I thought were becoming good friends, has been revealed as just one more hotbed of thuggery.

In the end I think we are going to have a lot of new friends to make up for the old. Afghanistan and Iraq will be, along with Kuwait, solidly pro-American for some time to come, I think. And "New Europe" has become a refreshing change of pace.

"I believe that I am one of THE most hawkish posters around so if it got to me I suspect it got to many, many more."

I hope you're right. However, you might be the only poster with the courage to write about your change of heart, apologize and put it on record.

Still, if even one of the 'kill them all, nits make lice crowd' comes to understand that we have no right to indiscriminately kill the innocent along with the guilty, that's a very good thing.

This war certainly has sifted the wheat from the chaff. Some of it has been terribly disappointing. Turkey dangled around until we had 36 ships with our highest tech equipment off shore (the 4th) and then they said no, denying us a much needed northern front. Well, we could go on al night about it, but we know, and we don't forget.

I would love to invite them to my house for Thanksgiving. This is what giving thanks is all about. So much for the leftwingut anti-war cruds. This story should be front page everywhere.

O'Reilly had an interesting pair of commentators on tonight--Michelle Malkin and Dick Morris--who gave their lists of "who is going to have to pay a price for their nonsupport of the war."

Michelle brought up Mexico and Canada; Morris went with Hollywood and the Democrat party.

Both of them agreed on Turkey.

Thank you for this splendid story, Spruce.

A small and shrill minority of Freepers professes to hate all Muslims. I wish to remind anyone who might belong to that group that if you truly hate all Muslims, you hate the hero of this story, and anyone like him.

I lived in a Muslim country for six years, and I know that there are Muslims who are good, honest, decent, and courageous. We need their help, and they definitely need ours. They have a tough row to hoe.

Saddam rewards the families of suicide bombers with cash.

We reward decent Iraqis with freedom, security, and hope.

As Spruce said, it should be shared with all American children. It is a modern day equivalent of the stories of our colonial forebears and would be great for 'Arab-American month', just proclaimed in Montomery County Maryland.

Bingo. Perhaps its most clear when the Islamophobes seek to blame Islam for every Iraqi atrocity even though Sadam is a totalitarian crypto-socialist who embraces Islam at his convenience the way his hero Stalin embraced the Russian Orthodox Church when the Germans invaded.

Our side is gaining on these pages....more and more posters are willing to point out that religious bigotry is a great big pile of barbrastreisand. I'm looking forward to the day when anti-Islamic bigotry gets zotted as quickly as other forms of racial or religious prejudice do around here.

Eric, I'm as opposed to the militant Islamists as much as anyone (and probably have been for longer than most of the "hate all Muslims" crowd has even been aware of the problem). But not all Muslims are like that, and we don't have to become bigots in order to destroy bigots.
