Stories just seem to be drying up right now. I am not finding much to add to what there already is. Or am I just starting to burn out on this?

I just went to the CDC web site and clicked on the WHO world numbers for sars and this poped up. I wonder if all that love and sharing and let's all get a long is history... or just a outbreak of good taste.

An interesting article worth memorializing on the discussion thread is here:
Doctors log on to fight SARS outbreak
FreeRepublic was one of the internet sites with excellent early information on SARS.

Thanks for pinging me to this thread, per loin. Just as CathyRyan thought, it's a good place for me to get updated on the latest articles...EternalHope, that was an excellent survivor's story, really tells what it's like from a nurse's point of view...
I know that a lot of people think this is overblown and that's fine. Most of the flu that the US gets every fall and winter is from infections that start in the far east in the spring. I doubt we'll really see much until the end of the summer, truthfully, though SARS will continue to be in the news.
Most years, the US has a new vaccine each fall for that year's flu virus. SARS is different than the flu, though, it's more like a new pneumonia cold...and while some people, including me, seem to be immune to colds (I haven't had one in literally a decade) I seriously doubt we'll have any magic immunity against SARS. Remember: nurses and doctors are among the earliest cases everywhere it breaks out.
I'm concerned, not about the case numbers now, because the US stats show no rapid spread here, but about what will happen this fall. I cannot imagine an effective vaccine against any coronavirus. Coronaviridae mutate rapidly and cross-infect multiple species.

You remember the sequence blast link that was up a day or two ago? It's down now. I wonder why....
To: Judith Anne
here's an odd bit from HealthCanada.com:
-Ontario officials disputed a report that 1,000 people are in quarantine after having had contact with three doctors who share a family practice and who have SARs. The three doctors and one spouse do have the disease, Basrur said. Two of the doctors are in critical condition. But she said those cases are linked to another large cluster and she knows of no patients infected by the doctors.

Hmmm...
Could they have found an error? If so, you would think they would say so.
Was there something they did not want getting out? (I'm gonna run out of tinfoil...)

I e-mailed the CDC and asked them if it was theirs or if it was a hoax. I do not know if I will even hear back from them or not. I checked and it is back up but I am wondering if the summary was added by someone else. I don't know. I have tried to find the cdc sequence blast on the net and at the cdc site and I can not find a second source for it.

I'm gonna need plenty of tinfoil here...
Donning my full body tinfoil suit (and counting on it being late enough that few people will ever read this post), how's this for two alternative theories:
1. After having a few days to look at it, they found something that would indicate the virus was man made. The obvious suspect would be China, but it would be impossible to prove. Rather than take a chance on something that explosive leaking out, they removed the info.
2. An alternate theory would be related to the apparent similarity to the rat coronavirus discussed on FR. That particular member of the coronavirus family seemed almost impossible to contain, and they may not want that kind of info getting into the press.
And, of course, it could be a combination of both.
It's late.
