May 1, 2003 -- President Bush's wild ride onto the deck of an aircraft carrier today will be a hair-raising experience - even for the former fighter pilot.

"He'll be coming down onto an area the size of a football field at 130 mph with the after-burners going," said Jim Buren, a 30-year Navy veteran with the Virginia-based Flight Safety Foundation. "That's quite an experience."

A carefully calculated plan which will have the world glued to their collective TV screens and help insure GWB's re-election.

I hope so but remember Presidential aspirant Dukakis thought he was going to get great publicity from commanding a tank.

MAY DAY

It's just another day unless you're part of the "ash heap of history" crowd.

If he did it on the 5th, we'd have Cinco de Mayo / open borders comments.

Thats a good one!

Clinton said that he would like to give that a try but he wants Monica to join him for a trip to the Mile High Club!

Dukakis managed to look extremely constipated while riding the tank. Dubya will probably bound out of the plane saying "Hey, that was neat! Let's do it again!"

Just don't let Mayor DALEY hear about this. He will be making a midnight raid on the Lincoln with his city worker goons to bulldoze big X X X's in the carrier deck!

So WHAT is the big deal about Bush landing on a carrier???? He's doing it in a Hoover, not an F-14. As near as I can tell, flying F-102s was way more dangerous than a daytime landing on a carrier in good weather. It sounds like fun!!!!

THE BATTLE OF MANILA BAY:

At Manila Bay in the Philippines, the U.S. Asiatic Squadron destroys the Spanish Pacific fleet in the first battle of the Spanish-American War. Nearly 400 Spanish sailors were killed and 10 Spanish warships wrecked or captured at the cost of only six Americans wounded.

And now Spain is one of our allies.

Just shows you how the world can change.

The S-3's engines don't feature afterburners.

Thank you. I was wondering when somebody would point this out.

"A carefully calculated plan which will have the world glued to their collective TV screens...."

O-K, how about just glued to the TV? :)

Carriers no longer have Marine Detachments. MarDets were done away with in the late 90s.

Another ignorant, retired, armchair, military expert. S-3s are not equipped with afterburners.

And four of those crashes were in the Super Bowl.

Today is also the start of the United States leg of the Dixie Chicks tour. Bet things are going to be interesting in South Carolina tonight. The timing of W's landing can't be just a coincidence could it?

Dubya will probably bound out of the plane saying "Hey, that was neat! Let's do it again!"

Which would require a cat shot, which is an entirely different container of gumballs... (I'm sure he'd love that, too.)

I read a story once in "Reader's Digest" that was quite amusing.

It went something like this:
Two navy fliers were to fly a high ranking navy officer out to sea to land on an aircraft carrier. These two fliers were both probably still in their twenties while the older high ranking officer was probably in his fifties.
The two fliers turned and said to the senior officer, "Sir. Is this your first carrier landing?"
The senior officer remarked very sternly, "Son I was making carrier landings when you were still in diapers."
The two returned, "Well then sir, that's great because this is our first."
