Juan Trippe should be in the top five, not number 28

"
Sally Ride gets on the list twice, once by name and twice by being included as a member of the space shuttle crew. By the way the space shuttle crew does not belong on the list, they were not pioneers."
Are you thinking (mistakenly) that Sally Ride (first American woman in space) was a member of the Challenger crew? Guess the Challenger crew could be considered pioneers in that they were the first American astronauts to die off the ground.

Ride flew on Challenger twice, of course, but I would think that the crew mentioned on the list was the crew of STS-51-L.
To: b4its2late; Northern Yankee; oldngray; abner; Molly Pitcher; Neets; Bitwhacker; Reaganomics; ...
Thought you might find this interesting.

Anyone know what Will Rogers did for flight besides dying in a plane crash?

Thanks as well. My only knowledge of him was reading his name in the Guinness Book of World Records over the years. Your post fills his life in a bit more for me.

Not sure apart from having the airport in Oklahoma named after him.

I tend to give short shrift to the German piolts of WWII because numbers reflect that a lot of cannon fodder was thrown their way. You know much more about Hartman than I do.The Germans without doubt had many excellent fighters in the war, my only point was that the numbers on them are deceptive. I will though make it a point to read more on Hartman

Wow, I completely missed Doolittle. That was a HUGE mis-ranking. It's like any other top 100 though. There always glaring ommissions and other things that make you scratch you head. It also stimulates debate. If nothing else, I learned of a few significant folks who I wasn't aware of before.

I am no fan of Glenn's politics either, but the reason he was never allowed to fly again is because Kennedy and Johnson would not take the chance of allowing the "hero" to end up dead. Once he made that trip, he was NEVER going back.
