Depending on where you go and in what circles you travel, conservatives are livid with the Bush administration. Some, more so than others, are furious over the size of the federal budget, the failing to rein in any kind of spending, tax cuts for people who don't pay taxes, the Medicare prescription drug benefit, the list continues - and there’s a great deal of head scratching going on.

I came across an Associated Press story over the weekend that attempts to shed some light on what’s happening, which you can hear me read in the audio links below. However, the story seems to imply there’s a conspiracy between the White House and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas.

Here’s just one excerpt: “DeLay has become the most identifiable representative of the party's right wing, and the two Texans have had a sometimes scrappy relationship. Clashes may become more frequent as Bush moves beyond his current phase of fund raising among loyal Republicans and shifts his attention to the general electorate, analysts suggest. At the same time, Bush and his advisers are mindful that if they go too far, they could alienate conservatives whose support he needs. ‘Bush is carefully picking and choosing his fights,’ said GOP consultant Scott Reed. ‘There's a healthy back and forth between the White House staff and DeLay that is mutually beneficial to both.’”

The story continues to suggest that Bush is telling DeLay to go ahead and stop what he’s trying to do - on purpose. The idea being that Bush can thus claim credit for supporting whatever measure, while DeLay and other conservatives can point to victory for blocking its ultimate passage. A caller later asked: “Isn't this the same strategy that Bush used on campaign finance reform, only he is counting on the Supreme Court to shoot it down?” You can hear my answer below.

As for the House plan, those that have attacked it should instead support it, as it promotes conservative ideals.

As for supporting the fringe I supported Bush with my time and money in 2000, I won't do it again. Will I vote for him maybe, it depends on my choices. A thinking individual demands something from the candidates that he votes for. As for being cowered you would have to be intelligent enough to understand what the comment meant first to be cowered.

I had the same thought, reading this latest screed. We know the Dems will do anything. Going head-to-head with Bush doesn't look like a winning stragerey, so if they can sow discord among Republicans...it's worth a try (from their perspective).

I am convinced that Rush scans Free Republic for trends, and that the anti-Bush people know it. They post Bush-bashing stuff, and Rush thinks it is the trend.

OTOH, maybe Rush just scans the political horizon, puts 2+2 together and realizes: "Hey, Conservatives won't like the prescription drug benefit, or sending checks to people who don't pay taxes.. "

And then, viola!

I would say at this point in time

TLBSHOW is independent as in the party will have to earn my support as it is no longer a given. Bush wants to push left wing then no support. If he wants to push conservative ideals then he will have my support.

Bottom Line is this posters will not be bought off like the blind are.

Being against partial birth abortion has nothing to do with being a socialist. The Christian Socialist Party in Italy is against all abortion. France is a socialist country and partial birth abortion is illegal there.

A socialist is someone who promotes or believes in socialism. Socialism is a system where the state controls the capital and property. Hitler is the author of modern socialism. His national socialism differed from communism in that the state just controlled property, and capital rather than owning it. Both systems redistributed wealth from the productive to the society as a whole.

Bush didn’t arm pilots. Congress did over the objections of his appointees, Minetta and Ridge.

As for judges, Bush nominated Owen and Estrada but he also re-nominated all the Clinton judges who were unconfirmed when Clinton left office. He has yet to nominate a SC judge so we don’t know what he will do there.

Bush’s tax cuts were mostly offset by his two huge tax increases.

There is no chance in the world that Bush will privatize Social Security in the next 6 years. NONE.

The Bush/Kennedy school bill sets the stage for the feds to run the local schools. The testing provision is the foot in the door. Because tests are meaningless unless they are standardized, Bush and Kennedy will come back and create a standard test for all schools.

Once they do that, whoever writes the test will control what is taught in every local school in America. Vouchers will also allow the feds into free market schools. In order to get the money, the free market schools will have to teach the same thing the government schools teach and the kids will have to take the test Washington creates.

Bush did well on the Kyoto Treaty, International Criminal Court, the ABM Treaty, and he is talking a good game on Star Wars. Bush would make a good Secretary of State. His domestic policies are socialistic, big government, liberalism. They are certainly not conservative by any stretch of the term.
