These soldiers are being primed by the media, then taped. The media is trying to relive it's glory days of Vietnam and show that it can stop this war too. No matter that leaving Viet Nam caused untold deaths in Southeast Asia. These reporters have no concerns at all about what they are doing, all they care about is making a name for themselves, the hell with the United States, the hell with Iraq and the hell with the good that the Army is doing for the Iraqi people. They are a disgrace to their country, their profession and most likely their parents.

In late 1946 American troops in France, under influence of some enlisted union goons, rioted repeatedly in Paris, demanding accellerated demobilization--demonstrating and chanting, "We Wanna Go Home!"

Baghdad must be more attractive place than Paris.

I don't think a court martial is necessary or appropriate. It can be handled quite well by their division. One thing worse than being in central Iraq right now is getting transferred to another unit and being there without rank or pay.

"None of us that wear this uniform are free to say anything disparaging about the secretary of defense or the President of the United States," said Gen. John Abizaid, head of Central Command. "We're not free to do that. It's our professional code. Whatever action may be taken, whether it's a verbal reprimand or something more stringent, is up the commanders on the scene."

Or something more stringent. Hmmm, interesting choice of words.
Websters defines Stringent as: "marked by Rigor, Strictness , or Severity especially with regard to rule or standard.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh....................................some people will just never learn.

your mouth is bringing dishonor not just to you but to all those who went before you

You are spot on here, these men and women may be great warriors (or NOT), they may have the most sophisticated weapons ever known, they may be the best trained, but the ONE ingredient missing from our military these days is HONOR. I speak of those who would ridicule their C-in-C and others in their COC rather than suck it up and serve with HONOR out of respect for those who gave ALL!

The soldiers in the 3rd ID have been there almost a year while soldiers in other divisions such as the 1st Cav have been at home. The other soldiers are getting the NCO courses and the civilian education required to get promoted while the 3RD ID soldiers are living in the dust.

Thank you for explaining this seldom-mentioned angle better than I could.

Of all of them, the sergeant who mentioned the deck of cards needs to be hammered. He was not interviewed--if you read the article, that guy actually sought out the reporter to tell him this. And he's an NCO so he's supposed to be a leader & set the example. And he's also, according to the story, in the brigade HQ--so he's probably manning a computer or a radio--not a checkpoint. What a disgrace.
