Agreed! I'm also a straight woman, and I think the "metrosexual" sounds like one of the worst concepts ever to come down the pike. Who wants a guy who goes shopping with you and wants to have a joint visit to the cosmetic surgeon? Amen sister! And to this day, I refuse to date a guy whom I could share my jewelry with! (earrings, ect...)
I have gay male friends, and they are fun to shop and gossip with (just us girls) - but I sure wouldn't want other men in my life to be like them.
How does that saying go, a woman can't have too many "girlfriends", LOL!! I agree. I sure wouldn't want to date someone I'd go to the spa with, or whatever.
Men and women are - well, different. Even in cultures where men devote more time to their clothing and grooming (such as Spanish, Italian and Latin American cultures), they are still 100% male and, believe me, there's no confusion at all about that!
Yes! At least there's one thing the French got right..."Viva la difference!"

My understanding is that gays make up less than 3% of the population. (...probably more than that who "experiment" but are not exclusive to their sexual preference.) Isn't it amazing that we are so innundated with gay propaganda via every single TV show (pretty much) that everyone thinks the gay population is much larger? Once again, and remaining consistent with liberal philosophy, THE TRUTH DOESN'T MATTER, IT'S PERCEPTION THAT COUNTS!

That's all I need, fashion advice from five gay guys! They're going to show me how to dress like a queer. How the hell do these guys know what a woman likes? They're GAY, that means they don't like women.
And don't give me that crap about them being women trapped in a man's body!

Tom Shales of The Washington Post objected to the "stereotypes on parade" in this series, and I agree.Leftist PC meets Conservative PC. Whine, whine, whine.

Tom Shales of The Washington Post objected to the "stereotypes on parade" in this series, and I agree. It's stereotypical to think of only gay men as top-notch connoisseurs of food, wine, culture, design and grooming. How heterophobic. It's the Gay Supremacy Hour.
Exactly..
But, of course.. stereotyping queers as anything but decent, caring people who just want to be left alone is "wrong"
Ain't it?

Try 3% of the population.
It's supposed to be more like 2.2%.

The last TV show that kept me interested enough to tune in weekly was "Walker, Texas Ranger". When Norris decided to stop producing the show, my TV was off for months. When I heard that Kellie Martin had a spot on ER, I tried watching that for a while. She was quickly killed off. I watched ER until they started pushing the lesbian stuff. My TV is off again. I can get news stories off AM radio or the internet. All I need is a monitor to watch selected DVD movies.

My understanding is that gays make up less than 3% of the population.
That's correct. The 10% figure is deeply ingrained in the American consciousness due to the Kinsey Report. However, most social scientists now agree that the Kinsey study was flawed in this respect and greatly overrepresented the # of homosexuals in the country.
A newer and much more reliable survey on human sexuality conducted by researchers at the University of Chicago in the mid-90s produced the more reliable figure of ~2% of the population.
I agree that TV probably creates the perception of greater gay representation. As well, those who are wealthier and more educated than average tend to know more gays and consequently these folks quite naturally believe that gays represent a larger portion of the population than they actually do. The same goes for city-dwellers.

"Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" is not pitched at the straight guy. It's pitched at the straight girl.
I only wish straight women would wake up and realize that many, if not most, gay men thoroughly detest women.

This is a made-for-Oprah'd-women show. More reason to stay far away. Or better yet, toss the TV. Haven't had one for years and there is no need for it. FR for news, books, and I play my own music.
PS. Maybe 2%. That's why they are recruiting madly in schools.

>"Can a homophobic stroke victim and a flamboyant drag queen help each other find self-esteem?" Traditional values are so misguided they've become an illness. Don't you love those films where the ultraconservative character recovers from the illness of his ways?
I don't like them either. However, perhaps the drag queen isn't a heterophobe. Perhaps the drag queen doesn't disrespect "traditional" values. Or, maybe he doesn't. Making a point about that would be valid; the point he makes isn't.
"Let's try it with a racial twist, where blacks are cured of their stereotyped fancy for fried chicken, watermelon and malt liquor"
That's a good point about hypocrisy, however:
"It's also -- surprise, surprise -- drenched in references to raw, perverted homosexual sex"
Yeah, well, that's why it's on cable.
"This crud may be acceptable for that element in our culture that's already earning an advanced degree in Sin Acceptance"
Is it possible to denounce the stereotypes and the hypocrisy without becoming homophobic?
