CA: Desert Cop Killer, Units Converging
local area tactical scanner
| August 8, 2003

ATTENTION
Big doins right now on high desert ATAC. They're surrounding a house in the vicinity of 200 ST E and AVE R.
"be advised we've got no cover and are sitting ducks if he's scoping us.."
"we need more units!"
They're surprising the location.
Sounds like they might think they got him, getting SB involved.
Air ship on scene.

They seem to be really spread out in the middle of the desert. A few of them are coverless but they ought to at least have their vehicles.

It seems like the house would be wise by now -- helicopters circling around.
Earlier they described "friendlies" in the house. I don't know how they'd know this. Maybe an informant?

If you have your vehicle, you have cover. Engine blocks are reasonable cover but are NOT 100%.

A "friendly" should be leaving shortly to drive out to the CP. Has to be an informant.

They're in contact via phone so I'm making assumptions. If that's the case my other assumption is that they really think they have the perp.

Property owner says all friendlies are out
No one else to his knowledge should be there (but someone is)
Might be our guy; might just be another desert transient
Air unit is now attempting contact with announcement
He is not acknowledging
Treating as barricade situation
Locking down are roads

The guy they're seeing looks like he has a "glass eye" according to one LEO.
Suspect has a "lazy" eye, with tattoo underneath it, according to another.

I wish I could find a better picture. I know I heard LEO last weekend telling each other he was a "second striker." Whether that means this is third, or he only had one before the incident, I don't know.

Any portable radio would by now have a dead battery.
Unless the suspect had facilities to charge it, not likely that the officer had that with him at the time he was killed.

And the plot thickens ! The officer said the media is not welcome bump .
