As you probably know, we deny immigration to wealthy, educated people from (ahem) white countries, but, permit virtually unlimited immigration to any people of color from poor countries. That policy is insane.

The Death of the West

Patrick J. Buchanan's contentious premise in The Death of the West is that the United States is no longer a healthy melting pot, but instead a confused, tottering "conglomeration of peoples with almost nothing in common." Relying on United Nations population statistics, and citing such diverse sources as Yogi Berra and Rhett Butler, Buchanan sees for America four "clear and present dangers": declining birth rates; uncontrolled immigration of peoples of "different colors, creed, and cultures"; a rise of "anti-Western" culture antithetical to established religious, cultural, and moral norms; and a "defection of ruling elites" to the idea of world government. His solutions include higher wages and tax breaks for parents than for singles, a dramatic rollback of immigration quotas, and a National History Bee. Buchanan's volatile, adamant book eschews any middle ground.

So Cubans should be given the same chance of immigrating as, say, Canadians?

In comparing Cubans and Canadians, is there any real difference between them in today's world?

Think of all the employers who get to EVADE a whole host of payroll taxes by BREAKING FEDERAL LAW in hiring these invaders. Imagine having a business where you can pay minimal wages to your workers knowing full well the Amercian suckers...oops, taxpayers are forced to subsidize those workers housing, food, medical, etc. What a great deal!!!

Also, the true answer to this open borders fiasco could very well be found by studying the FTAA or Free Trade Area of the Americas, which is the next stage of NAFTA and will essentially turn this whole hemisphere into a trading bloc ala the EU. Only question is whose Constitution will be in force? Who gets to pay for all this "integration"...one guess. What type of gov't apparatus will be in place and will it be regional or one big superstate? Lotsa questions....

Sorry, I don't see it that way. I have no problem with immigration as long as it's done legally. I don't think race has anything to do with intelligence, either. I think we should give immigration preferences to those coming from despotic countries.

That's the $64,000 question. Sure let's just OPEN THE BLOODY flood gates then (SARCASM). Or give them get out of jail free cards (MORE SARCASM).

That policy is insane.

Not if you're a DemonRat staking your future on race-pimping.

Ensuring that immigrants are always of some other ethnos than the dominant one in the target country guarantees that your services as a 'Rat Pimp will always be in demand, since social tensions will always be on high simmer, if not boil.

Unhappy people make for happy, fat 'Rats. They gorge on our troubles and feast on social conflict. And they run up and down drainpipes all day, and nothing ever sticks to their shiny, glistening fur....

Bring me ferrets. Millions of ferrets.

BORDER PATROL - ASA HUTCHINSON - GEORGE BUSH

Yes, it would be useful to know whether the memo-writing idiot in San Diego were acting under direction.

I didn't say intellegence had anything to do with race. Did you say that?
I don't think we should give preference to those fleeing despotic governments; people from all countries (except from those which may be prohibited) should have equal chance for immigration, within legal limits, provided they come here to work and assimilate.
Persecuted Christians and Jews should be entitled to preferential immigration.
Rather than offer special privledges to those from despotic governments, we should just overthrow the governments and save the immigration rush. It would be a lot cheaper and give our military some practice.

In the interest of fairness lets look at this from another perspective.

What was this agent doing so far from the border in the first place? Wouldn’t it make more sense for him to be on the border or at a check point preventing additional aliens from getting through?

Now that he drove all the way up there and arrested this family does anyone here really think they will be removed to Mexico? Not likely. Does it make sense to round up aliens already in the country when they can simply drag out their deportation proceedings for 10 years and then not show up for their deportation anyway? This system is a joke.

Perhaps our Border Patrol should focus on it’s primary mission defending the border. Perhaps the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (who’s job it is to round up illegal aliens) should do their jobs.

It makes no strategic or tactical sense to take agents off the border to round up illegal aliens in the interior. While this agent was arresting this group, how many more entered?

The problem of 8 to 10 million illegal aliens in this country requires a political solution and the development of a safe and sane immigration policy. The Border Patrol must focus its resources efforts on the border. They’re the only defense we’ve got.

You're right, of course as far as the "just another immigrant story." These "stories" are coming so fast and furious, one sob story after another ... daily news ... and they're ALL illegal. And not one of them apparently mind having their face splashed all over major newspapers; so I really doubt they call up the authorities and ask if it's "safe" to go to the swimming pool. It's all scamming arrogance, bravado, and theatrics!

As regards the young girl in the seized van, I would have no problems arresting and charging her father for perpetrating a crime.

And, I agree with you wholeheartedly about the police and border patrol ... they need our support! Not a bunch of pandering politicos tell them how to do their job.

Just as an aside, it never takes long on a thread like this dealing with illegal immigration for someone to bring up the subject of race and imply---or state outright---that those concerned with illegal immigration simply find immigrants' skin color objectionable, are disguised racists, "believe there are racial differences in intelligence," etc. They expect, and too often get, a "conditioned response." Good way to keep the lid on the immigration debate, such as it is.

Let me put it like this: during the time it takes to recognize a problem and overthrow it, something needs to be done with the people coming here. Sending them back in the face of a planned attack on the country they're coming from would be kind of stupid, would it not?

What was this agent doing so far from the border in the first place? Wouldn’t it make more sense for him to be on the border or at a check point preventing additional aliens from getting through?

"So far from the border"?? Listen, San Diego County is right on the US-Mexico border and San Juan Capistrano is just over the county line from San Diego. Don't make it sound like these guys were off on a wild goose chase just to try to nab some poor shivering "undocumented worker" and whale on him---these guys were enforcing the law and nabbing people who illegally went over the border.

Now that he drove all the way up there and arrested this family does anyone here really think they will be removed to Mexico? Not likely. Does it make sense to round up aliens already in the country when they can simply drag out their deportation proceedings for 10 years and then not show up for their deportation anyway? This system is a joke.

And your point is? We throw the baby out with the bathwater because deportation proceedings are screwed up? Besides, aliens nabbed "so close to the border" can be detained and returned---they don't have to go through "10 years of deportation proceedings"---not unless the Border Patrol is prevented from doing its job.

Perhaps our Border Patrol should focus on it’s primary mission defending the border. Perhaps the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (who’s job it is to round up illegal aliens) should do their jobs.

Who says the Border Patrol isn't doing its job?? Why do you think these guys are so angry---because they want to hang out at the beach at SJC instead of patrolling the border? No, they want to be able to enforce the law against illegal entry into the US, and that means detaining illegal aliens where they find them, even if it's not right at the border.

It makes no strategic or tactical sense to take agents off the border to round up illegal aliens in the interior. While this agent was arresting this group, how many more entered?

No one's "taking agents off the border to round up aliens in the interior"---didn't you read the article? Agents are being prevented from detaining illegals at an arbitrary (and as I noted very close) distance from the border.

The problem of 8 to 10 million illegal aliens in this country requires a political solution and the development of a safe and sane immigration policy. The Border Patrol must focus its resources efforts on the border. They’re the only defense we’ve got.

"The problem of 8 to 10 million illegal aliens in this country requires a political solution and the development of a safe and sane immigration policy."? Ah, I get it now!! No enforcement of current law---just a "political solution" (translation: "amnesty" and political accommodation of the demands of the Mexican government, and American law and taxpayers be DAMNED), and a "safe and sane immigration policy" (translation: open borders).

The Border Patrol "must focus its resources efforts [sic] on the border."? They're trying to do just that---you and the other "open borders" people in and out of the government get the hell out of their way.

I think the race baiters look for ways to push a rational discussion about a problem, such as illegial immigration, into a debate about just those things. You're good to alert people of the risk of taking the bait from the racial baiters, however, I am not the type to take the bait...
