European DNA Found In 7-8,000 Year Old Skeleton In Florida (Windover)
TLC ^ | 8-14-2003 | blam

Earlier I posted an article titled Bye, Bye Beringia (8,000 Year Old Site In Florida.

I just turned on The Learning Channel and caught about ten minutes of the ending of a program titled, 'Secrets Of The Bog People: Windover', it is about this 'Windover' site in Florida. A doctor Gregory from Cornell said that preliminary DNA samples taken from the brains of some of the people indicate they are European. They also showed a reconstructed face of one of the skulls.

I checked my TLC schedule and it indicates that another showing will be at 11:00PM CST tonight.

This is revolutionary...American prehistory is about to be re-written, IMO. I encourage all to watch the program

There are some DNA-based triangular ancestry diagrams for Caucasians, Hispanics, Africans and Native Americans on the following commercial site: Ancestry Testing

Don't know whether this site is reliable or not, but the concept is interesting.

Happened upon the show last night and was fascinated. I never did buy into ancient man not having any nurturing qualities.

"Smells like a massacre. 170 people don't just end up in a bog."

Nah, the bodies were buried over a 1,300 year period.

"Nah, the bodies were buried over a 1,300 year period."

Also, DNA shows that they were all closely related.

The world has a lot of people who don't seem to fit the expected mold.

I have seen a few Japanese who could almost, but not quite pass as Europeans.

Likewise, American Indians seem as different, for instance plains Indians, SouthWestern Indians, and Southeastern Indians don't look at all like each other.

"... Maybe this is where the European legend of the land of eternal youth developed. Was it the vestigal remnant of memory of this place, prediscovered thousands of years before Cortez and Columbus etc bumped into the place?"

What an imagination...I like it. They said they recovered cloth/clothing that was as finely woven as present day T-shirts....unheard of for that time, anywhere in the world.

As to what was their ultimate fate, remember the Carolina Bays? (Impact Craters)

Ainu - Jomon influences.

Of all things, I read a study on ear wax...seems Europeans and Africans have a sticky wax and Asians have a flaky wax. Further...The Indians in the west (US) have predominately the flaky variety while the Indians in the east have the sticky kind. Who knows...
