One other thing: I spent a New Years' vacation once in a mountain cabin overlooking Donner Lake and Donner Pass on the other side of the valley.
The snow seemed incredibly deep, although the locals said it was nothing out of the ordinary.
During a clear night with a full moon, the place was starkly beautiful, but eerie. oooOOoOoooEeEeEEEEEEoooOOOooo...
