Basically, the ACLU liberals have been taought that (1) blacks are too ignorant and too stupid to vote properly using punch card ballots
A purely racist argument, as all such arguments are.
(2) some counties in CA are under federal surveillance for voting since they have "under-represented" minority vote counts in the past and these counties use punch card ballots
Uh huh. Like one has anything to do with the other.
(3) The currrent election represents a "change" in the voting law (although the recall law predates the Voter Rights law and so isn't a change at all!)
You are clearly correct here.
<(4) therefore the minorities in those counties are being denied voter rights by being forced to use punch card ballots.
Pure BS, of course, as well as racism as noted above. But nevertheless a perfect example of what passes for "logic" with liberals.

I'm impressed, really I am! Arnold is taking no crap from rude reporters, and he's even being articulate. I have a feeling Arnold spent the last few weeks saving up spit. Great job, Arnold!
All 3 cable news channels showing him...and if this is the political Arnold, he's one serious, determined dude.

I believe this is only one of several suits that are under consideration. There are still some about pre-clearing changes in voting procedures with the DOJ that could delay the recall.
To: Saundra Duffy
However, the ACLU did not lodge those same complaints when those same voters voted Davis in, interesting, no?

You'd think he has been listening to Rush. LOL

ACLU? What grounds do they have to petition the court for a delay in the recall?

Lights out!

If punch-card ballots are so bad, why didn't the ACLU sue to bar their use in the 2002 California state elections? Y'know, the ones that resulted in a Democrat sweep of every statewide office? and left Democrats with about 62% of the seats in both houses of the state Legislature?
Oh. I guess THAT election was fair, somehow, punch-card ballots notwithstanding.
It's just THIS one, this recall-Davis one, that is going to be unfair.
Have I got it now?

I'm gobsmacked! I thought for sure the Clintons had shopped this around to a friendly judge who would rule whatever they wanted.
To: Sir Gawain
I think they were saying that punch cards would disenfranchise minorities. So the ACLU is arguing that the same people who elected Davis using punch card ballots last year are incapable of voting to keep him in office using punch card ballots this year? OK.
To: lilylangtree
"ACLU? What grounds do they have to petition the court for a delay in the recall?" I was questioning, myself, whether the ACLU even had legal standing to bring the suit. And I don't think this decision is appealable, so this should about end it. The other suit was made moot by the DOJ approving compliance in those four CA counties.

Thank you.

But they are a dfferent type of voting machine, aren't they? I guess it's a moot point because no one ever complained about them before.
The Dems better get busy real quick like and start teaching all those dumb minorites how to vote. Not much time left now.

They would've if they could've, but judicial assignments are random as between all active judges in the district. Wilson got this case because it was deemed closely related to a suit brought by Common Cause, settled in summer 2002 with a consent decree whereby LA County (and other counties) would have replacements for the old punch-card systems in place by MARCH 2004 -- and whereby all parties OK'd use of punchcard systems prior to that date!

Good news, but I think that there is at least one other action pending: the one last week that gave a two week period to demonstrate that four counties were in compliance wth the VRA.

I'm gobsmacked! I thought for sure the Clintons had shopped this around to a friendly judge who would rule whatever they wanted. Maybe this is what the Clintons wanted. Bustamante is leading the polls right now. Maybe Hillary! and Company think he can pull it off. I'm sure the Arkansas Dirt Machine is in overdrive digging up stuff on Arnold to use in the race. Won't have to dig too far, I trust.
Free advice to Arnold. If you're ahead in the polls as it's getting to Recall Day, spend the extra time and take the bus!
