Ahah, well, that explains why it was so well-done! It doesn't, however, explain why the "press" can't do it too--unless, as I said above, they don't want to. Thanks again. I've finally sifted through all of it, and emailed it to a couple of people. Great work. (Now if I can just avoid the dreaded "internal server error"...)

The question of why the media behaves as it does has a many-layered answer. I just try to urge people to maintain a healthy skepticism about any of these media feeding frenzies until the facts play out. I also try to remind people that news media outlets are businesses first and foremost, and that the product they sell is information packaged as stories. Synonyms for story are tale and yarn. This isn't to say that the news media never tells the truth, only that truth takes a backseat to sensationalism, sex and gossip.
