Your cell group leader? Yeah, that's the new in thing on Sunday nights. Instead of church on Sunday nights, we meet in small groups in someone's home. That actually is a good thing because it allows people to connect, however, the amount of teaching is gradually disappearing. This is based on Rick Warren's Purpose Driven model. Actually the Cell Group concept got started in the US in the late 70's based on the success the Dr. Cho experienced in South Korea. We were cell group leaders in in 1979!

Perhaps looking at things through an entirely new perspective would help you out. In the Orthodox Church not a whole lot of emphasis is placed on the Sermon, although a Priest must read a commentary on a particular Gospel reading before he speaks to the Church so that the faith remains the same, also the Liturgy itself has remained the same through the years. However, to get a lot out of it you need to put a lot into it. Prayer, fasting, good works, Spiritual reading are all part of it. Furthermore, you must remember that not everything is in Scripture and Tradition is a useful tool in which to preserve the fulness of the faith. For you personally perhaps your best bet would be to study the early Christains and see who practices what today.
