"It also demonstrates those who build it have more preoccupation with the sacrifice than with Him."

That is a statement with no basis in fact.

"Two entirely different modus operendi by two different persons."

Okay. And that shows...?

This displays by Jesus Christ how man is to handle situations, while with Mary we are shown how the natural man has a tendency to place the worldly task prior to the spiritual task.

Your argument posed a universal statement,..that 'religious art' promotes 'spirituality'. All that is needed to disprove that assertion is a counterexample. In this case the set of idols of false gods may be used in the class of 'religious art' to show that the universal is false.

Besides, spirituality is only introduced via the Holy Spirit for the believer. Our struggle in our soul between the old sin nature of man and remaining filled with the Holy Spirit which indwells us is the real arena of spirituality.

We probably agree that 'religious art' may be used by the Spirit to introduce perception of an idea, but the 'religious art' as a material object is just as easily used to introduce worldly lust if we abide by an old sin nature rather than remaining in fellowship with Him so He returns to us.

I'm not taking a gnostic or Puritanical position. Even the most foul objects might be used for divine good in some contexts.

That statement does not mean, "No one comes to Me except through his own personal interpretation of Scripture and nothing else."

Since the Word of God has been brought to us by the Incarnation, and we today are also indwelt by Him, our own personal interpretation of Scripture, while we remain in fellowship with Him indeed allows us to come to the Father by faith through Jesus Christ.
