**De labore Solis
(of the eclipse of the sun, or from the labour of the sun)
Hist.:Karol Wojtyla was born on May 18, 1920 during a solar eclipse. He also comes from behind the former Iron Curtain. He might also be seen to be the fruit of the intercession of the Woman Clothed with the Sun labouring in Revelation 12 (because of his devotion to the Virgin Mary).**

Didn't I read on FR somewhere that there will be an eclipse of the sun sometime in November?

Lunar Eclipse: 11/9/03
Solar Eclipse: 11/23/03

As for St. Malachy, I put zero stock in the "prophecies."

Even if authentic, they are simply a Rorscharch test for projecting one's own thoughts rather than scrying out the future.

It would be rather unnerving, however, if our current Pope passed away Sunday.

Like you, however, I hold no store by these prophesies, and consider them, like the tale of Pope Joan, to be wishful fabrications.

For example, the prophecy concerning Urban VIII is Lilium et Rosa (the lily and the rose); he was a native of Florence and on the arms of Florence figured a fleur-de-lis;

Just a minor thing - the Fleur-de-Lis is an Iris, not a lily, if that was what what implied. The lily and the rose are symbols of the Blessed Mother, the fleur-de-lis is more of a state thing. Florence, France (of Louis IX) and St. Louis (the city) all use it as a symbol.

Didn't I read on FR somewhere that there will be an eclipse of the sun sometime in November?

On Sunday, 2003 November 23, a total eclipse of the Sun will be visible from within a narrow corridor which traverses the far Southern Hemisphere. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow begins in the Indian Ocean, and quickly sweeps over portions of Antarctica. A partial eclipse will be seen within the much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes most of Australia and New Zealand, southernmost South America, and all of Antarctica.

Total Solar Eclipse of 2003 November 23

Thought for the Day

Always be faithful to God in keeping the promises made to Him and do not bother about the ridicule of the foolish. Know that the saints were always sneered at by the world and worldlings; and they have trampled and triumphed over the world and its maxims.

Gloria olivae

One cardinal touted as 'papabile' is French Cardinal Lustiger. He is of Jewish descent. Were he to be elected pope, he would fit the Gloria Olivae title perfectly. In his Letter to the Romans, Chapter 11:17-24, Paul describes God's possessors of the Covenant, Abraham's descendants, as a "cultivated olive tree". Gentile Christians are the wild olive branch from a wild olive tree, that has been grafted onto the original cultivated olive tree. Neither one, either Jew or Gentile, is considered better than the other, since Paul says neither group supports the roots. Regardless, if the Holy Father passes away and this French Cardinal or Bishop begins his reign, then we must look twice at St. Malachy's prophecies.

Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger

His mother was burned in the ovens of Auschwitz, yet he converted to Catholicism, rose to the zenith of power in the church, and could become its next leader. Gloria Olivae?

There is only one more enumeration in the actual prophecy so some think this means only one more Pope. Or maybe this means we start with another Holy See in a new location.

JP II has certainly had much solar activity during his time.

From another website:

St. Malachy O'Morgair (1095?-1148)

Maelmhaedhoc O’Morgair (Latin form: Malachy) was born in Armagh, Ireland in 1094. In 1148, he died in the arms of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, his biographer.

St. Malachy was reported to have possessed the powers of levitation, healing, and clairvoyance. While on his way to the Vatican to assume the post of papal legate for Ireland, he fell into trance and saw a line of papal reigns stretching from the successor to Innocent II and extending through centuries to the last of the line, identified as Peter of Rome. Malachy assigned short descriptions in Latin to each pope when he committed his vision to paper. These mottoes usually refer to a family name, birthplace, coat-of-arms, or office held before election to the papacy. Some of the phrases are multiple prophecies, written with ingenious word play. For example, Pius II, who reigned for only 26 days in 1503, was aptly described as "De Parvo Homine" (from a little man). His family name was Piccolomini, Italian for "little man."

Sometimes the personal history of the pope plays a part in the motto given by Malachy. Clement XIII (1758-69), who had conenctions with the government of the Italian state of Umbria and whose emblem was a rose, was called by Malachy Rosa Umbriae, the "Rose of Umbria."

The passage of time has proved doubters of St. Malachy wrong, for his prophecies have turned out to be amazingly accurate. He even prophesied the precise date of his own death, and got it right. The prophecies concern the papacy, starting with Pope Celestine II in 1143. In all, 112 popes and their characteristics are listed from 1143 to the "end of the world."

Here are descriptions of the final popes according to Malachy:

Pastor et Nauta/Shepherd and Navigator: John XXIII (1958 -1963), patriarch of Venice (a city full of sailors) led his flock to a modernization of the Church through the Ecumenical Council. John chose two symbols for this Council -- a cross and a ship.

Flors Florum/Flower of Flowers: Paul VI (1963-1978) had a coat-of-arms depicting three fleurs-de-lis.

De Medietate Lunae/From the Half Moon: John Paul I (1978-1978) had the given name of Albino Luciani or "white light." Half-way into his short reign, a lunar eclipse occurred.

De Labore Solis/From the Toil of the Sun [Labore could also be Effort, Distress, Suffering, Trouble, leading to quite a few variations. The preceding is the usual translation.]: John Paul II was born during the solar eclipse of May 18, 1920.

De Gloria Olivae/From the Glory of the Olives: The Order of Saint Benedict has claimed that this pope will come from their ranks. Saint Benedict himself prophesied that before the end of the world his Order, known also as the Olivetans, will triumphantly lead the Catholic Church in its fight against evil.

Petrus Romanus/Peter of Rome: The Final Pope? "In the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church there will reign Peter the Roman, who will feed his flock among many tribulations, after which the seven-hilled city will be destroyed and the dreadful Judge will judge the people."

Another take on the Glory of Olives theory. Is the French Cardinal Lustinger a Benedictine?

The same author tells us that St. Malachy gave his manuscript to Innocent II to console him in the midst of his tribulations, and that the document remained unknown in the Roman Archives until its discovery in 1590 (Cucherat, "Proph. de la succession des papes", ch. xv).

To claim that one merely "found" the manuscript rather than having written it oneself was an almost universal literary device at the time. Consider for example "Don Quixote" which was roughly contemporaneous.

"I don't think we are asked to believe these prophecies, but I do think we can consider them and their relative facts/predictions."

No doubt. That which has come to pass is no longer prophesy, but history. Many of the once mysterious designations that Saint Malachi assigned to future popes have now been factually related to very personal traits of these Pope's lives, such as birth circumstances, geographical locations, coat-of-arms, obvious personality traits, etc.

The final prophesy seems to be regarding a Pope and a Church which is being badly persecuted. Considering such indicators as the phenominal rise of Islam, atheism, socialism, homosexuality, abortion, divorce, public lewdness, abolition of public prayer and religious expression, sparsely attended Churches, Catholics suing their own Church for money earmarked for charity, excessive media focus on the sins of clergy, well....... this is indeed a major persecution of Christ and His Church. I feel that we are not at all very far from the next stage of persecution, the bloody stage that nobody will be able to deny; not even those "Catholic" ostriches who have chosen to suck sand all day rather than look around themselves and face the sad reality.

I don't believe so. In taking a closer look at his 'pedigree', I notice that he was born in 1926. That would make him 77 years old ... perhaps not as likely a candidate as we had originally thought.

Keep in mind that Malachy's prophecies are said to have been locked away for four hundred years before they were allegedly discovered in 1590 in the Roman Archives. Arnold de Wyon first published them. The debate has raged ever since as to whether they are forgeries or genuine predictions of St. Malachy.

This topic seems to be a popular one in this forum. Came across this in my search ... lol!

My opinion, based on the supposed to be, Venice Passage in June next year that will last 7 hours, is that if this event does occurr, it will be called "the woman clothed with the sun" and will be used to unite Hindus, Buddhist, Catholics, New Agers, etc., since they all have in common a woman that is highly venerated, worshipped, diety, or whatever other term you may wish to call it. Time Magazine article states that one of most-heavily visited shrines in the world is the shrine of the Black Madonna, in Czestochowa, Poland. Of course, this Pope, John Paul II, is from Poland. Kathleen O'Hayes, of National Christian Research, states in her tape of the coming global Marion Apparition, that Pope John Paul II considers himself "the slave" of the Black Madonna.
New Age author, Gilles Quispel, who is the Historian Of Religion at Utrecht University. Galland reports, "For Quispel, the Black Madonna plays a crucial psychic role which he described in Jungian terms as symbolizing the earth, matter, the feminine in man, and the self in woman...Unless men and women alike become conscious of this primeval image of the Black Madonna, and integrate it within themselves, humankind will be unable to resolve the problems of materialism, racism, [and] women's liberation...The Black Madonna is the one common denominator among the religions of the world." New World Order was officially started on May 1, 1776, as Jesuit priest, Adam Weishaupt, founded the Masters of the Illuminati.
Another New Age writer, China Galland, a practicing American Buddhist, has written a very revealing book entitled Longing For Darkness. Galland enthusiastically establishes the commonality between the Virgin Mary and other Pagan goddesses. "Durga, the warrior queen...was the only one who could restore harmony and set the world at peace...the gods sang her praises, called her the Queen of the Universe..." Time Magazine reports that one of the names by which the Virgin Mary is known is the Queen of the Universe? Galland continues: "I had come to find the Buddha Tara, but instead I found the goddesses Durgan and Kali...Kali, the death-dealer and life-giver, the end and beginning of time. She was a deity of such proportions as I had heard only God the Father in Christianity described... These two goddesses are Hindu." Galland continues. "...St. Ignatius gave his sword to the Black Madonna of Montserrat in Spain, became a priest, and founded the Jesuit Order...".
History is loaded with examples of civilizations who diefied a woman. A few examples are in Egypt, she was called Athor , Tibet and China, she was called Virgo Deipara, Greece, she was called Hestia, Rome, she was called Juno, or Dove. From this designation, the Dove became the symbol of the "deified queen..commonly represented with an olive branch in her mouth." It is startling to listen to the Jesuit author, Malachi Martin, asserting in his book, The Keys Of This Blood, that now "the Dove is loose, the Dove is loose". Martin clearly believes that Catholicism will prevail in this struggle because of the intervention of the Virgin Mary who will be seen by all major religions as their "diefied queen" and used as a great tool for the establishment of the One World Religion with the soon- to- follow Anti-christ." Concerning Fatima (the Interfaith Shrine), Archbishop Michael J. Fitzgerald, Prefect of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, representatives from the world religions — including Buddhist, Hindu, Islam, Orthodox, Anglican and Catholic — gave testimony to the importance of "sanctuary" in their religious traditions. Later, the Portuguese press published that the aim of this Congress was to establish Fatima as an interfaith Shrine. It is an approach that plays down doctrinal differences in the various religions and emphasizes "what we have in common". Another speaker spoke of Fatima, Mecca and Kyoto in the same breath, thus placing the true Church of Christ on the same level with false creeds; and placing the true revelations of Our Lady of Fatima – an event verified by the Miracle of the Sun before 70,000 people – on the same level with the fables and superstitions of false religions. This is a mockery of the true God and a blasphemy against Our Lady of Fatima.

Yea, you right. I much better prefer the "mishmash" of Hinduism, Buddhaism, Islam, Anglicans, homosexuals, New Agers, Golden Dawn, etc. with the Black Madonna or the Shrine of Fatima. As long as we leave out the Mayans and the 10 commandments of Exodus 20:3-17 everything will be just fine.

I think that if we are truly Christians we are looking at this all wrong....true ...not true ...believe...not believe.....What do Christians do when they are not sure of what is correct?????? TURN TO THE BIBLE. So what does the bible say about prophecies. 1. the prophet must say that it is from the LORD.(witch he did by giving it to the Pope)(note: He doesn't have to be Christian to be a true prophet...check the old testament..but he must say it is from The Lord) 2. Prophecy must be told and pass on...(he gave it to the pope) 3. it must come true 100% of the time. Now that may sound simple but he must make a prophecy prior to making a prophecy that has come 100% true. The Prophecy prior must not be ...it will rain tomorrow. It has to be specific and in the future, but it can be multiple Prophecies.

The only part left up to interpretation is the last. I can agree that alot of this is Vega, but at the same time it has come true 100% of the time. now if you do some math and say that there is a 1/14 chance(take a deck of cards and guess one right out of 14 cards) that he would just be guessing right on each one; he would have 110 right out of 110 and the chances would be in the trillions to one. If that is not a proof of prophecy I don't know what is.

He has met all the Criteria by bible standards....He is a prophet. Unlike Nostradamus(can't spell). We don't know if he is or isn't because he never stated outright that this was from the LORD. people believe the lies as much as the truth.

Also he has another person to account for his love of people and the LORD. St. Bernard also tells us of another prophecy that he told that came true....Malchy's own death...Day and Hour. This guy is batting a thousand.(more like trillion)
..always refer back to the bible....2 more Popes left...ARE YOU READY????

Praise the LORD,
Love ya
Joe

Hear, Hear! About time somebody said it. You can exalt Mary all you want. You can exalt any man all you want, prophet or otherwise. But when you worship them &/or place ANYONE (whatever his/her name) in a place equal to God, you commit Idolatry. Hindus, Buddas, and any and all other gods, are false gods, worship of which is worthy of death & hell-fire.
