So this means no handholding, no “lift up your hearts” freethrow and generally, no Catholic calisthenics, right?

If it’s not in the GIRM nor traditionally done, give it up. It doesn’t belong. And if you are not charismatic, skip that Orans position as well. It’s a priestly gesture and not for the laity.

Even if you are charismatic, drop the Orans. Let’s stop imitating the priest.

“lift up your hearts” freethrow

LOL! Not to mention the "for Thine is the Kingdom" (a Protestant addition, anyway) wave.

I cut the charismatics a break if it’s a charismatic mass. Other than that, don’t bring it to my church. At our Holy Mass, you’ll be breaking the unity.

LOL! Exactly!
Why can’t Catholics hold still anymore. They should watch EWTN and see what the people there do not do.

Please explain the “orans” position? Never heard of it.

no Catholic calisthenics

Too funny. Did you make that up? It is a great description.

Orans is the “hands extended” gesture reserved for the priest. They laity usurped it. Arms out, palms up.

I’ve heard the lame excuse that people use a “modified orans”. In other words, elbows tucked to the waist, hands out straight, palms up.

Find THAT one in the GIRM!

Before I was tossed from Catholic Answers Forums for being too traditional, a poster named Dr. Bombay coined it. Funniest poster there. He got banned for life too. (Whenever someone said that the orans was a “Proper Prayer posture” he would put up a graphic of a referee calling a touchdown.)

But it the phrase fits so well, doesn’t it?

Another Look at the Orans Issue

What is the Catholic origin of the "Orans Position" (vanity)

They actually started a “Traditional Cathosism” forum. Rounded us all up there, let people take pot shots at us until we got angry, then banned us all. About ten long time posters who knew too much for the lib agenda. They are really pretty liberal on the forums.

I had been on their forums for three years with one warning in all that time (on the WOT forum). They suspended me in the morning and banned me three hours later. For life. And my husband’s account as well. Careful if you go there.

I was the handholding/orans expert. People could PM me and I could come into threads with documentation on it. I had people contacting me to beg to come back. No way. I’d rather be here.

“Cathosism” What’s that?

Even if you are a charismatic, don’t violate the rubrics. The orans position for the laity is a no-no.
