Catholic Revert
today | me

Posted on 12/14/2008 5:42:53 PM PST by Churchjack

Gaudete, gaudete, gaudete! Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice!

A few years back, under another screenname, I was banned from this site for bashing Catholics.
Today I are one, and just went to my first Gaudete Sunday mass as an adult.
While unintentional, I realize now that I was being something a couple of steps above a boor, and probably deserved it. I would like to apologize to backhoe, Jimrob, and everybody whom I may have hurt, and ask humbly for forgiveness and acceptance.

I'm not around the forum much anymore, and my contributions are less than minimal, but I just wanted to make a public confession to those I offended and celebrate the faith, maybe other Catholic converts or reverts can share their stories here.

God Bless!

I drifted out of the Catholic church as a teen, and became a Baptist at 22 years.

Well, welcome back. It’s messy and disorganized, but it’s home.

What screenname did you post under?

Congratulations and welcome back.

I am more than curious to know your old screenname but that is your business and choice to share. It is not important in the big scheme of things.

Might want to change your homepage.

Here’s a nice Christmas season quote from a letter the FSSP District Superior recently sent:

“It is in the Christmas season that the powerful truths of our Faith are made manifest. To pray before the Christmas manger reminds us that Our Lord and Savior came into this world as a helpless child in order to save us. We kneel with Our Lady and St. Joseph at Our Lord’s crib, adoring God Incarnate who would one day be nailed to a cross for our sins and rise from the dead offering eternal life to us all. The wood of the manger is a foreshadow of the wood of the Cross. The joy of Christmas is found in these truths.” - Fr. Eric Flood, FSSP.

Actually, I find the orderliness to be above the norm that I experienced in the Evangelical community. I like it. I was Baptist for over 20 years, but went to many non-denominational churches (some you've seen on TV); I just gotta say, I DIG liturgy. A lot.

My current pastor has MAD administrative and pedagogical skills, I must say. He's leaving next month to pursue his doctorate up in DC, he'll be missed.

People were banned for all sorts of things, including for just "taunting the moderator". You should be more thankful for the current RM!

FWIW I admire the orderliness in "high church" worship far more than what passes for worship in many evangelical churches.

Myself, as well. One of the factors that brought me here -- a truly reflective, prophetic message, respectfully handled, instead of whatever bug is buzzing the preachers' nose that week. You may have heard about the pastor here in Texas recently that encouraged his married folk to "couple" every day for a week -- I'm not certain what redemptive value there is in that sort of, err, message.

Not likely to see the Father leap over a pew and jab his finger in somebody's face, either (yes, I've seen it).

Welcome back home. I converted to Catholicism many years ago, from the Episcopal Church.

There are always going to be problems in any Church, because pastors and priests are human and we are all sinners. But the Catholic Church is the one that goes back to the beginning, it’s the one that Jesus said he would be with until the end, and it’s certainly the closest thing to to the credal “one, holy, catholic, and apostolic,” in the sense of universal.

Cardinal Newman makes the case.
