Group questions Catholic funeral for Kennedy

(Father) "Thomas Euteneuer, president of Human Life International, released this statement concerning Senator Kennedy. "We must, as a matter of precept, pray for the salvation of heretical Catholics like Senator Edward Kennedy, but we do not have to praise him, let alone extol him with the full honors of a public Catholic funeral and all the adulation that attends such an event."

He adds that while Senator Kennedy called himself Catholic, like Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Joe Biden, they are actually wolves in sheep's clothing.

"They do not hold to the teaching of the church. They, in fact, take every opportunity seemingly to contradict the teaching of our church," Euteneuer says. "So in the case of Senator Edward Kennedy, he was not only against his church's teaching on the issue of abortion, but the same with embryonic stem cell research, the same with gay marriage and various other issues which set him in diametric opposition to his church's very well-defined and clearly articulated teaching."

I think the motorcade things would have been more apt had they had Ted in a convertible with two of his nephews, a la Weekend at Bernie’s.

Kennedy wasn't allowed to be buried in a Catholic cemetery.

That’s because he’s being buried in America’s most honored cemetery. Judging from the number of Catholic clergy at his funeral, he would have had no problem getting into a Catholic cemetery.

I hope he is burning in HELL!

As sinful as the individual was, no Christian should ever make that statement. And if they do, they are no better than the object of their anger.

This lowlife was buried at Arlington? a place where Medal of Honor recipients are buried? A dumpster would be too good for the likes of his carcase.

Sorry you disagree with me. I AM a Christian and I believe that there is a place for those who committ the most heinous crimes. He worked against all that is right and good, knowingly worked against America and the freedom that she stands for, and committed (if not murder) than at the least, voluntary manslaughter. My statement is supported by the Bible and I will not change it. While you think I should take it easy on him, I sure hope the Almighty doesnt.

I believe that there is a place for those who committ the most heinous crimes.

But you are not God and therefore are in no position to make judgment. You are in serious spiritual jeopardy if you feel you are so righteous to be equal to God, who alone judges the state of man's soul.

Open public support and cheerleading for abortion and embryonic stem cell research or funding such things with tax dollars should bar a Catholic funeral Mass and burial. Since they merit excommunication and are considered grave evils. Only if the person had publicly recanted and repented could it be otherwise.

You put your own soul in peril, issuing a curse like that.

Ted Kennedy, in life, was almost invariably in opposition to Christian principles. He was a powerful man who used his power in ungodly ways. He wasn’t just made wealthy, but was born wealthy due to the corruption of his father’s generation. He had some weird, almost hypnotic hold over the voters of Massachussetts, that is inexplicable to an outsider, especially a southerner who is not Catholic, such as myself.

I can only make sense of it in terms of some relict, immigrant cliquishness, gone on a half century too long. Catholicism was and is a common thread between the more recent immigrant groups, even to this day, and so it appeared that his support was Catholic. It was the children and grandchildren of Irish and Italian immigrants, though, coincidentally Catholic, who were held in the man’s sway.

This is another opportunity for the Catholic church, like Notre Dame was earlier, to make plain the truths of the matter. I’m sorry to say, I don’t expect to hear anything other than the politically expedient thing, the easy thing, the “ear tickling” thing.

But, Ted Kennedy is dead, and his sins are between himself and his Maker now. Outrage and condemnation of the man serves no purpose. Outrage and condemnation of the beliefs he so devastatingly represented, in direct opposition to his church, does serve a purpose, though.

Try to deal with it in this context.

Human Life International's Statement on the Passing of Senator Edward Kennedy

We must, as a matter of precept, pray for the salvation of heretical Catholics like Senator Edward Kennedy, but we do not have to praise him let alone extol him with the full honors of a public Catholic funeral and all the adulation that attends such an event. There was very little about Ted Kennedy's life that deserves admiration from a spiritual or moral point of view. He was probably the worst example of a Catholic statesman that one can think of. When all is said and done, he has distorted the concept of what it means to be a Catholic in public life more than anyone else in leadership today.

Obviously we don't know the state of Senator Edward Kennedy's soul upon death. We don't pretend to. We are told by the family that he had the opportunity to confess his sins before a priest, and his priest has said publicly he was "at peace" when he died. For that we are grateful. But it is one thing to confess one's sins and for these matters to be kept, rightfully, private. It is another thing entirely for one who so consistently and publicly advocated for the destruction of unborn human beings to depart the stage without a public repudiation of these views, a public confession, as it were.

It is up to God to judge Senator Kennedy's soul. We, as rational persons, must judge his actions, and his actions were not at all in line with one who values and carefully applies Church teaching on weighty matters. Ted Kennedy's positions on a variety of issues have been a grave scandal for decades, and to honor this "catholic" champion of the culture of death with a Catholic funeral is unjust to those who have actually paid the price of fidelity. We now find out that President Obama will eulogize the Senator at his funeral, an indignity which, following on the heels of the Notre Dame fiasco, leaves faithful Catholics feeling sullied, desecrated and dehumanized by men who seem to look for opportunities to slap the Church in the face and do so with impunity simply because they have positions of power.

It is not enough for Kennedy to have been a "great guy behind the scenes" as we have seen him referred to even by his political opponents. It is also not praiseworthy to put a Catholic rhetorical veneer on his leftist politics that did nothing to advance true justice as the Church sees it or to advance the peace of Christ in this world. Every indication of Senator Kennedy's career, every public appearance, every sound bite showed an acerbic, divisive and partisan political hack for whom party politics were much more infallible than Church doctrines. Whatever one's political affiliation, if one is only "Catholic" to the extent that his faith rhymes with his party line, then his Catholicism is a fraud.

As the Scriptures remind us, there is a time for everything under the sun. This, now, is the time for honesty about our Faith and about those who are called to express it in the public forum. If we do not remind ourselves of the necessity of public confession for public sins such as Senator Kennedy was guilty of, then we are negligent in our embrace of the Faith and we are part of the problem. As Pope Benedict has reminded us recently, charity without truth can easily become mere sentimentality, and we must not fall into that error. A Catholic show of charity for the family must not eclipse the truth that is required of all with eyes to see and ears to hear.

Senator Kennedy needs to be sent to the afterlife with a private, family-only funeral and the prayers of the Church for the salvation of his immortal soul. He will not be missed by the unborn who he betrayed time and time again, nor by the rest of us who are laboring to undo the scandalous example of Catholicism that he gave to three generations of Americans.

Sincerely,

Rev. Thomas J. Euteneuer,
President, Human Life International

Sorry big'ol_freeper, but I dont pretend to be or think of my self as equal, or even come close to the Creator. I simply use the emotion,, (or whatever you call it) that he gave me to let my wishes be known. In your dieing breath, you may ASK for forgiveness, but that doesnt mean you will be given it. By the way, this is my opinion. Please allow me to express it.

your hopes are satisfied each day, as thousands, millions, of counter-culture secularists die each year. “Hell, it is the place where poor sinners go.”

They don’t need any help getting to hell. And, of course, hell is not the solution. It is the problem.

“as we forgive those who trespass against us.” “Pray for your enemies.” ... These are merely suggestions, but I think leftist politicos qaulify as trespassers.

Well that's some sound theological thinking for you. On the one hand you have God who wishes for all to be saved and we have you who wishes one to "burn in hell". Think about that and then pray that Christ fix your heart.
