The cult leaders of the ELCA are desperately trying to stop the hemorrhage of members, congregations and most importantly, money.
Money, of course, is their main concern.

This guy must be best friends with the idiot presiding bishop of the Episcopal church. That’s working out real well. Maybe they should join forces and come up with their own new church.

Most certainly, works do matter. However, our good works do not earn forgiveness for our daily sins, nor gain us redemption from our inherently sinful conditon, nor justify our declaring acceptable that which is not.

Did ELCA churches learn NOTHING from that little problem that the Catholic church had with gay clergy?, No, and the fact that one of their own was convicted of multiple acts of pedastry in Marshall, TX several years ago (nearly bankrupting the East Texas-Louisiana Synod in the civil settlement) did NOTHING to slow down the proponents of the gay agenda.
They argued that the TX case was one of pedophilia, not homosexuality.
That former pastor like boys.

“ELCA leaders emphasize it’s up to individual congregations whether they want gay or lesbian pastors.”
Yeah, just like the time the old ALC decided to ordain women. Bishops blackmailed congregations if they did not takewomen as pastors by refusing to send any male candidates.

* as of August 19, AD 2009, a liberal protestant SECT, not part of the holy, catholic and apostolic CHURCH.Don't be silly. Substantial portions of the ELCA were apostate many years ago. I could not believe my ears when an ELCA pastor, who later ran for bishop, told me he questioned the diety of Jesus Christ.

ELCA leaders emphasize it's up to individual congregations whether they want gay or lesbian pastors. For now.
