3 Words That Drive "Progressive" Catholics Crazy (Catholic Caucus)
NC Register ^ | January 25, 2010 | Matthew Archbold

Posted on 01/25/2010 9:55:04 AM PST by NYer

I’ve been running a Catholic blog for a few years now and have inadvertently come across certain words and phrases that just drive self described “progressive” Catholics crazy. Tweeters have been doing this a while concerning politics but I thought we could have some fun here coming up with 3 word phrases that just unhinge “progressive” Catholics. Take a look at my suggestions and then I encourage you to add your own in the combox.

1) Traditional Anglican Communion
2) The Catechism states…
3) Abortion is murder
4) Communion on Tongue
5) Scott Hahn said…
6) “Caritas in Veritate”
7) Archbishop Raymond Burke
8) Latin Mass Society
9)Ineffable. Ineffable. Ineffable.
10)Three letters C. D. F.
11) For the many
12) An Apostolic Visitation
13) Hermeneutic of continuity
14) Mary Ann Glendon
15) Mandatory retirement age
Bonus: God Bless America

I’d love to hear your suggestions as well.

**I myself would add that it makes desecration of the Holy Eucharist by the ignorant and evil more difficult.**

Yes, I have waited for someone to consume the Body of Christ before giving a host to the next person. But a friend actually chased someone who put the host in his pocket. She got it from him the next day and consumed it.

Mutilating the Body of Christ is a favorite practice of some alliances.

“...new incoming Catholic here, still in training. Can someone point me to either a quick answer or a link explaining why we conservative Catholics are supposed to favor receiving the communion wafer on the tongue?”

Either way to receive is fine. The important thing is the disposition of the heart, the love for God and the desire to please God.

The Church allows both receiving in the hand and on the tongue (except when the Sacred Host is dipped in the precious blood....then on the tongue only). If the Church decides to change this to only the tongue, it should not be a problem. Be aware that SOME well-meaning Catholics can become somewhat legalistic on both sides of the argument that it should be one way versus the other.

;-)

When addressing the “Happy Clappy Liturgical Abusing Crowd” I do not espouse Communion on the tongue. They seemed relieved until I espouse Communion on the tongue at the communion rail which necessitates a kneeling position. The distress on their faces can't be hidden. I fashion myself as one who brings happiness and peace to the Vatican 2 types. I have threatened to sue a local parish which is “Progressive” for false advertising in calling itself as a Catholic Church.Debates with these pseudo catholics is much more spiritually refreshing and rewarding than debates with Fundamentalist Protestants.
