VATICAN CITY – The Vatican is facing one of its gravest crises of modern times as sex abuse scandals move ever closer to Pope Benedict XVI — threatening not only his own legacy but also that of his revered predecessor.Benedict took a much harder stance on sex abuse than John Paul II when he assumed the papacy five years ago, disciplining a senior cleric championed by the Polish pontiff and defrocking others under a new policy of zero tolerance.

Utter nonsense. The MSM is clearly salivating because they think they have found a weapon to use against Pope Benedict. Ain’t gonna work.

But as attention focuses on Benedict, a perhaps thornier question looms over how much John Paul II, beloved worldwide for his inspirational charisma and courageous stand against communism, knew about sex abuse cases and whether he was too tolerant of pedophile priests.

They're still pushing the "pedophile priests" line. I noticed the same phrase in the recent Washington Post coverage.

It is a lie. There was very little sexual abuse of pre-pubescent kids. The problem was overwhelmingly that of gay pederasty: gay priests assaulting young post-pubescent males.

The MSM can't acknowledge that one of their cherished victim groups might have been responsible for this horror, so they lie about it, again and again and again.

It is a parade of MSM lies fueled by Anti Catholic/Christ goons on the FR forum and trying to re crucify Christ.

So stupid.

You’re right. The stories always say pedophile priests - the majority were post pubsescent boys. They never talk about homosexual priests which I believe is the true crime.

There will always be pederasts, and they will always try to hide in jobs that give them access to children, and they will always need to be prevented and punished by men of good will.

The problem in the Church was the lack of application of the penal sanctions of canon law after the Council.

This problem also manifests itself in the phenomenon of the pro-abortion "Catholic" politician.

No wonder they call you their flock - you are delusional sheep.

According to the Jay Study, 67.4% of the abuse was of kids aged 12 and over. 80.9% of victims were male.

The primary problem was pederasty, not pedophilia, yet pedophilia is all the MSM wants to talk about. Most of the sex abuse was perpetrated by gay priests targeting young postpubescent males. The MSM lies about that in order to protect gays. That was, obviously, my point.

If you have a perverse need to warp my criticism of the MSM's lies into an exculpation for the very real Catholic priest pedophiles, I think you should examine your motives for doing so.

And save your anti-Catholic bigotry for a Catholic.

IMO it's no accident this is happening during Lent. I wouldn't be surprised if it was stepped up for Holy Week.

I hate to tell you this, we are as a Church going to have to have more purgation, and exposure and public penance. We are going to have to lie here and get kicked around, I’m afraid. But if we are going to get kicked and bled we can insist on the truth. This will be bad, exceedingly bad…worse even than the horror time a few years ago. But we have to have the whole terrible truth about just how bad it can be before we come to their senses.

Let all of the poisons that lurk in the mud, hatch out.

Brace yourselves, we haven’t seen anything yet. It’s going to get much worse before it gets better. I predicted this a long time ago, when the Da Vinci Code came out, that a worse persecution of the Church is about to begin. I WAS RIGHT!

Sorry, but I don’t agree with your assessment. The Church will suffer, yes, but I don’t think it will be as difficult for us as 2002. Quite frankly what is going on in Europe won’t effect Catholics here. Benedict will still be pope, for instance. Also, traditionalists have suffered very little in all these scandals. We’re somewhat isolated because there were fewer ephebophiles hidden in the ranks of our priests.

I’m not sure. I don’t see this so much as persecution and stupidity - and it’s ineffectual anyway.

With the passage of soetorocare the leftstream media feels emboldened.

From an article linked from Drudge:

"He is really accountable to no one, and that is the history," said former priest Richard Sipe, author of the 1990 book, "A Secret World" about the priesthood. "There have been a pope or two who have resigned, several hundred have been murdered, but it's a very stable organization from the top down. What other monarchy do you know that's lasted for 2,000 years?"

I thought I saw that earlier today:

Huh! Good catch. I wonder if Pope Pius XII is Fr. John Zuhlsdorf. If he isn’t . . .

PP 12’s FR home page says that he rejects Vatican II, so I very strongly doubt that he’s Fr. Z. :-0

Still, it is in Germany where Benedict's popularity has taken a real hit.

A poll in Stern magazine released this week shows only 39 percent of Germany's Catholics trust the pope, down from 62 percent in late January. Some 34 percent trust the Catholic church as an institution, down from 56 percent in January. The margin of error was 2.5 percentage points.

And these numbers are only for German CATHOLICS!

So the news these days isn't ALL bad.
