Rabbis Urge Filibuster Against Homosexualization of the Military- As a Threat to Religious Liberty

Special Spokesman for Traditional Torah Family Values, RABBINICAL ALLIANCE OF AMERICA

OVER 800 RABBIS URGE FILIBUSTER TO PREVENT HOMOSEXUALIZATION OF THE MILITARY

In the wake of the recent Congressional votes to repeal the ban on homosexuals serving openly in the US Armed Forces, Rabbi Yehuda Levin, Official Spokesman on family issues for the Rabbinical Alliance of America, representing the views of approximately 850 Orthodox Rabbis across the US and Canada, issued the following statement – ahead of the expected full Senate vote:

“Decent Bible-believing family people have been increasingly outraged by the cravenness of many politicians in their mad dash to turn timeless values on their heads, by advancing homosexual adoption, domestic partnerships, civil unions, “marriage,” and “Heather Has Two Mommies,” et. al.

“The next slice of the salami – the koshering of volitional homosexual activity, along with all aspects of the homosexual culture, throughout the US Military – constitutes a rebellion against G-d, and demoralizes both military and civilian society. We condemn the inherent antipathy, intolerance, and even belligerence towards the essential religious liberties of Bible-adherents.

“How queer that Politically Correct “equality”-fanatics in the military, who have already recognized the “religious rights” of Wiccans, would single out traditional Bible-believers to be the object of their Zero-Tolerance policies. This will render it nigh impossible for Bible adherents to serve in the military.

“Passage of such evil legislation would expedite our hurling towards Sodom and Gommorah. It would also threaten to repel Divine Grace from our military’s struggles, and beyond. We call upon the Senate to unapologetically filibuster this legislation. We also ask all people of faith to adhere to our previous declaration that it is forbidden to vote for office-seekers who support the homosexual agenda.
******************************
*************************
“We wish to express our deep anguish, and apologize to the American people for the role Senators Lieberman and Levin have played in advancing this “abominable” legislation. WE CONDEMN THEM. “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.”

Too bad Rabbi Levin is a one-man band. The Rabbinical Alliance of America is basically a mailing list and Rabbi Levin is little-known in Jewish religious circles.

Regarding Congressional legislation to scrap “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”, advocates rely for foundational credibility on the 1973 decision by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) to remove homosexuality from its Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM). The decision responded to a two year campaign Newsweek described as ongoing disruptive, chaotic attacks on psychiatrists and physiologists. Yet at this annual meeting and throughout this period of disruptive attacks, no papers were presented refuting any research previously done.

Eventually a third of APA’s 17,000 plus membership voted for removal. The under-voting and public attacks support the understanding that the decision came through intimidation, and not as a result of scientific reasoning. The process for this protracted dispute institutionalized an alternative to undergoing the mental stress and discipline of research. Now an interest group could publicly market their claim, and tailor the DSM to fit their agenda. Therefore, the way opened for the DSM to accumulate political manifestos and marketing brochures as much as attempts at scientific exposition.

After this mercurial, but unsubstantiated, decision a task force was established to ensure perpetual sanctity for this APA action. No research papers would again arise to confirm initial therapy success rates of 30% to 60 % substantiating that 7 of 10 homosexuals could eventually walk away from the lifestyle forever. This new task force would set standards for peer review of articles to ensure appropriate flexibility in design definitions, outcomes, and analytical models. Acceptable pre-ordained theses would compile selected human data points, using selected questions and behaviors, and arrive at pre-approved incites.

Psychology and Psychiatry have chosen to abandon all pretense of scientific rigor in exchange for popular societal and political acclaim. The barriers erected to meaningful research about homosexuality remind me of Genesis 3:23-24. In these verses the Lord God banished humanity from the Garden of Eden and placed an angel in the Garden to keep humanity away forever. By their actions, Psychology and Psychiatry appear content within their own Garden of Eden. They seem to consider the accoutrements of a religion to be more attractive than those of a science.

Base antidotal prattle dominates the current debate, because these two disciplines cannot make a meaningful contribution. They should lead a debate, which would examine whether any mental disorders are acceptable for people seeking or retaining military service. Instead they underwrite the thoughtless political and societal acclamation keynoting discussions. In such an environment, there is little chance people will consider military service should always be the ultimate meritocracy to compete successfully against enemies unconcerned with social engineering.

This is extraordinary. If we can find a voice for this, why do we not raise our voice for ALL the things that we are so adamant about.
In my dealings with the Bet Din, the only public reaction was ALSO against Joe Lieberman for his support of abortion. We need to sound off much more loudly and clearly about the issues of our time.
For now, koach shur to the Rabbis. Don’t stop here!

I agree. The state of even Charedi Jewish leadership in America today is bad. He may be a lonely voice, but he's following the Talmud's injunction: where there is no man, he is being a man.

There's an organization called the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the United States and Canada that is very similar to Rabbi Levin in their positions and worldview, and I believe they're the oldest organized rabbinic body in the country.

There is more than the Biblical injunction against homosexuality in this debate about whether to let openly homosexual individuals into the military. There's also the issue of cohesiveness and morale of military units living in close quarters. Plus, male homosexuals will statistically be weaker physically than their heterosexual counterparts because of their much higher rates of serious sexually transmitted diseases; that will also lead to greater medical costs for the military.

Rabbi Yehuda Levin has been in politics for quite some time. IIRC, he once ran for Mayor of NYC on the Conservative Party line.

Strictly speaking, the chareidi Jewish leadership in America, represented by Agudath Israel and others, is doing fine, unlike the politically correct orthodox Rabbinical Council of America.

The late Lubavitcher Rebbe was insistent and outspoken in urging Jews to take active interest in halting the moral decline of the general culture.

Yes, they're much better, but they still have plenty of problems which Rabbi Levin deals with in his shows. It is really too bad he is so nearly alone in his struggle.

The late Lubavitcher Rebbe was insistent and outspoken in urging Jews to take active interest in halting the moral decline of the general culture.

Absolutely! He also said now that there is no longer any danger for doing so, Jews should spread knowledge of the Noachide Laws throughout the non-Jewish communities.

Merely as a PS, I understand that at the "end of days" the Jewish leadership will be in the hands of the `Erev Rav. And this will not be among the liberals or politically correct, but among those who seem the most strict, devout, and pious. I'm not saying we're there yet, but it's something to think about.

I have the answer: Segregation! Allow homosexuals to enlist, but only to serve in “Pride” units. In the Army and Marine Corps, there’ll be “Pride” battalions and companies, and lesbians will also be able to serve in military police units (where they already congregate), construction engineers and equipment repair. The Navy and Coast Guard can outfit “Pride” vessels, such as the USS Harvey Milk, the USS Stonewall, the CG Cutter Crist and the USS Barney Frank. The Air Force can have “Pride” squadrons detailed to cooking, graphic arts, bomb disposal, cargo parachute sewing and FOD.

Ah, if the poofters were detectable at birth the moshels and rabbis could do the world a great service by being sloppy with their slicing!
