How about one from The Bard: “To thine own self be true.”
Let not the sun go down upon your wrath. - Ephesians 4:26
As an addendum, Gutenberg died in 1468. The KJV was published in 1611. There was 150 years between the two events. No wonder you guys have the trouble that you do with your doctrines, when you cannot keep simple timelines in order.
My favorite line from the bible:
What profits a man if he gaineth the world but loseth his soul?
Oh, oh, oh. Pick me! Pick me!
Latin.
Did you know God was a Conservative?
From the Nicene Creed or Apostles's Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
Creator of Heaven and Earth
And in Jesus Christ
His only Son, Our Lord
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit
Born of the Virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
Was crucified, died and was buried.
On the third day, he rose again
He ascended into Heaven
and is seated at the right hand
of God, the Father Almighty.
Despite this I am pretty darn sure God loves all his Children. Even lost, misguided, mentally deficient liberals. I won't swear to it, but I'm pretty doggone sure.
Written 4000-5000 years ago and the only way this statement is true is if the writer knew the earth was round.
Sorry, I have a different take on that. Since the writer was referring to a great distance, the only way for the statement to be true would be if the writer thought that the earth was flat.
If these weren’t mentioned here are my quotes:
1. Spare the rod; spoil the child.
(BTW, I’ve read that the “rod” in question was a shepherd’s crook, so you don’t hit the child with it, you guide him back to the right path with it.)
2. The last shall be first.
3. Let there be light.
4. Render unto Caesar... (what is Caesar’s, but render unto God what is God’s ).
5. Bring me his head on a plate.
It’s a good thing we have people like you here to make sure that the Church gets it right.
funny thing about those eclipses. why don’t we see a square face?
BenKenobi is one of you guys, as best I've been able to tell.
But Jesus says of them in Matthew 23:24 that they strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.
One of them was new to me: “A drop in the bucket”. And I spend more time in Isaiah than any other book in the Bible. Funny thing is I was wondering about the origin of that saying yesterday. That probably means I need to spend some time in Isaiah 40.
One I had forgotten: “By the skin of our teeth” from Job. I recognized the passage but had forgotten all about it.
Nope, I’m a Catholic.
This is supposed to be a fun thread.
Umm, everybody knows that Gutenberg published the KJV in English that Jesus and the Apostles used to preach the Gospel throughout the Holy Land. If English was good enough for Jesus, it is certainly good enough for us...:)
Nope, you are correct. England was a third rate country with a fourth rate language at that point.
I liked them too. Thanks.
I don't make sure that the Church gets it right. I speak as best I can to ensure that the Church's pronouncements to the people are understood correctly. For me to make sure that the Church gets it right would be for an ACORN janitor in Mason City, Iowa to ensure that Admiral McMullen gets the military strategy for the entire USofA correct in his capacity as Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Great!
