Pope includes Hindu verses in prayers on Good Friday
merinews ^ | Apr 14, 2009

Posted on 02/08/2011 7:12:21 AM PST by Gamecock

HINDUS HAVE applauded Pope Benedict for including verse from ancient Hindu scripture Upanishads in the Good Friday Meditations and Prayers led by him at Roman Colosseum.

Acclaimed Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that it was a remarkable gesture from Pope and invited him to study more ancient Hindu scriptures, which were very rich in philosophical thought. He or other Hindu scholars would gladly provide the help and resources in this regard, if asked, Zed added.

Zed, who is president of Universal Society of Hinduism, also commended His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI for inclusion of a verse from India’s Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s Gitanjali and reference to peace icon Mahatma Gandhi in these prayers.

This year’s 'Way of the Cross at the Colesseum' Meditations and Prayers on Good Friday, led by Pope, included well-known verse from Brahadaranyakopanishad (“Lead me from the unreal to the real, from darkness to light, from death to immortality”), line from Tagore’s Gitanjali (“Give me the strength to make my love fruitful in service”) and reference to Mahatma Gandhi.

Rajan Zed stressed that all religions should work together for a just and peaceful world. Dialogue would bring us mutual enrichment, he added.

Pope Benedict heads the Roman Catholic Church, which is the largest of the Christian denominations. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksha (liberation) is its ultimate goal.

We as Catholics are very lucky we are still here. We could be the next group to be swept.

Understand, some people have privileges that we do not.

I just lay low.

Can you comment on the configuration of the cross used to crucify St. Peter and how you know what the orientation of the cross used to crucify Jesus?

The Bible doesn't say. Doesn't say about Peter either for that matter. Peter's type of cross tends to come from church tradition. His is somewhat of an aberration so not sure how accurate the account is.

Christ on the otherhand is known by looking at Roman history. There were 3 types of common crosses generally used by the Romans, in some cases 4, but generally 3. P.S. I once took a graduate level Roman history course in college and passed with an A grade. I remember this being discussed in class. Following are the common 3 types:

The cross on the left was called a “high tau” cross because it was shaped like the capital Greek letter tau (“T”). Also referred to as the crux commissa or St. Anthony's cross.

The middle cross was known as a “low tau” cross, shaped like the lower case tau (“t”). Also referred to as the crux immissa or Latin cross. This is the one commonly believed to have been the cross of Christ based on the 1st century writings of Josephus.

In both cases the central post, or crux simplex, was generally set permanently in the ground while the cross bar was carried to the site by the victim.

The cross on the right was an actual tree still in the ground (dead or alive) with its limbs serving as the cross bar.

On rare occasions there would be a cross (not depicted above) shaped rather like an "X" often referred to as the crux decusssata, or St. Andrews cross. But this one was not very common. The only instance of a 'tau' cross being turned upside down for crucifixion is found in church tradition regarding Peter and was a special request the Romans acquiesed to. How accurate that tradition is I can't say.

A good site for more information

Stop lying

Do not accuse another Freeper of telling a lie, it attributes motive, the intent to deceive. It is "making it personal."

Words such as "false" "wrong" "error" do not attribute motive.

Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.

Well call me confused, because I'm not sure where you are going with that statement?

The only thing I can think of is perhaps Foxe's Book of Martyrs which tells the story of the over 50 million Christians the RCC slaughtered during her reign of terror between 538 - 1798. You might want to go read it sometime, quite the eye opener. Makes supposed blasphemy by protestants pale in comparison.

I have RESISTED believing a lot of that for decades

even though I’ve studied globalism a lot and therefore secret societies somewhat for 45 years.

I just didn’t want to GO THERE.

I didn’t want to imagine the reaches and the successful invasion of and polluting of “Christian” organizations—particularly major ones like the RCC.

However, if one takes Biblical prophecy seriously, as I think every authentic Christian is obligated to do—then,

OF COURSE satan would attack the groups where he could do the most damage and groups THROUGH WHICH he could do even greater damage.

And he’s clearly done a good job.

I think that video was most disturbing to me for at least 3 reasons:

1. Dr Walter Vieth sp? is so incredibly calm, matter of fact, thorough, meticulous, scrupulous, accurate.

2. He uses the organizations and individual’s own words and documents vs Walter’s own opinions.

3. His information is incredibly congruent with rooms full of puzzle pieces I’ve collected over the 45 years.

So, I didn’t have much choice but to go—OK, LORD, I finally see it and accept that the vast bulk of it is quite true regardless of how alarming.

Thanks for your kind words.

I find your double standard constructions on reality

outrageously . . . disingenuous . . . to put it extremely mildly.

I realize that

—abuse—truly harsh personally assaultive stuff toward individual Proddys is quite WONDERFUL

AS LONG AS RC’S ARE DISHING IT OUT TO PRODDYS.

—AND horrific and even very untrue characterizations of Pentecostal and other Proddy leaders is

EXCEEDINGLY FAIR GAME—EVEN RIGHTEOUS—as long as

RC’S ARE DISHING IT OUT ABOUT PRODDY LEADERS.

—AND literally stalking RELENTLESSLY in very PERSONALLY harsh, PERSONALLY abusive, PERSONALLY DISHONEST ways is applauded, dogpiled on and cheered

AS LONG AS IT’S RC’S AND AN ORTHODOX HENCHMAN DOING IT TO PRODDYS.

MetMom has endured dozens of literally stalking assaults usually DAILY for months while the perpetrator seemingly exalts in the deeds with relative impunity.

AND YET YOU HAVE THE UNADULATERED CHEEK TO WAIL at my

VERY WITHIN THE RULES minor stuff?

What balderdash. What a twisting of reality!

What an outrageous umintigated double standard.

I used to have a grain or three of respect for you.

I think the major difference is

Proddys really do seem to have typically very much thicker skins.

MetMom sails on through it with her head held fittingly above the fray.

The deceptive and dishonest ugliness virtually never stops yet MetMom is amazingly serene and composed.

She’s certainly not vengeful and vindictive in response as is the

STANDARD

Vatican RC rep response hereon.

**What a farce to pretend that’s authentic Christianity.**

Could you please reflect, prayerfully reflect, on these words of Jesus Christ? (And the specific words that I have bolded within it? Thanks.

PS. This was today's Gospel -- a good one, no?

Gospel

Jesus summoned the crowd again and said to them,
“Hear me, all of you, and understand.
Nothing that enters one from outside can defile that person;
but the things that come out from within are what defile.”

When he got home away from the crowd
his disciples questioned him about the parable.
He said to them,
“Are even you likewise without understanding?
Do you not realize that everything
that goes into a person from outside cannot defile,
since it enters not the heart but the stomach
and passes out into the latrine?”
(Thus he declared all foods clean.)
“But what comes out of the man, that is what defiles him.
From within the man, from his heart,
come evil thoughts,
unchastity, theft, murder,
adultery, greed, malice, deceit,
licentiousness,
envy, blasphemy, arrogance, folly.
All these evils come from within and they defile.”

Way I see it is there is a boxing match been going on for centuries between RC’s and proddy’s. Sometimes blood gets spilled. So naturally from time to time this boxing match is going to find its way on FR.

It all comes down to ‘heresy’. The RC’s yell HERETIC towards the proddy for daring to question the pope, the magisterium and the extra-biblical creeds and sacraments they hold dear.

The proddy in turn yells HERETIC towards the RC’s for violating Scripture, and teaching as Doctrine the traditions of Men which Christ Himself rebuked.

If you ask me its a battle between Scripture and tradition. Scripture will always come out on top. God’s Word will always, ALWAYS prevail so the RC’s have their panties in a wad. You see deep down they KNOW Scripture is the higher authority even though they can’t openly admit it, so the gnashing of teeth and anger and attempts to silence any forms of dissent. The proddy on the otherhand is secure in those same Scriptures and can afford to be humorous about the debates, even empoying satire and sarcasm every once in a while and thus usually has a thicker skin. JMO.
