The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced Tuesday that it had suspended 21 priests from active ministry in connection with accusations that involved sexual abuse or otherwise inappropriate behavior with minors.
The mass suspension was the single-most sweeping in the history of the sexual-abuse scandal in the Roman Catholic Church in the United States, said Terence McKiernan, president of BishopAccountability.org, which archives documents from the abuse scandal in dioceses across the country.
The archdioceses action follows a damning grand jury report issued Feb. 10 that accused the archdiocese of a widespread cover-up of predatory priests, stretching over decades, and said that as many as 37 priests remained active in the ministry despite credible accusations against them.

When is this nightmare going to end!?
"...At a minimum, the scope of the suspensions underscored the grand jurys contention that the archdiocese had failed to clean house after a grand jury report in 2005 found credible accusations of abuse by 63 priests. And it suggested that potentially, predatory priests had had access to thousands of children for years..."
This story was on page 13 of the "New York Times."
Does anyone not believe that if this story had been "21 Baptist or Presbyterian or Methodist ministers suspended for sexual abuse in Philadelphia," it would be front page news instead of buried on page 13?
Who knows, I know I don’t.
Isn’t this the third time this has been posted already? Is it really necessary to post it again?
I always wondered why anybody would continue to donate to the Catholic church, when a good portion of that money will probably have to go lawyers and victims of sexual abuse cases.
It wouldn't have been in the paper at all.
When the majority of the recruits are homos how can we expect any thing but this kind of action from them?
I Timothy 4:1-3...forbidding to marry....is giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrine of devils.
Amen!
If things don't change, it's not wrong to conclude Rome wants it this way.
Only under wraps.
No, this story hasn’t been posted. The number of suspended priests is quickly increasing.
That can only be good news.
Exactly. Yet many in the congregation are told their offerings are not going to pay these abuse court cases.
When they find out they were lied to, they're understandably upset.
Just how upset is difficult to determine.
***I always wondered why anybody would continue to donate to the Catholic church, when a good portion of that money will probably have to go lawyers and victims of sexual abuse cases.***
I do! In the 1930’s the communists sent 11,000 men to join seminaries and destroy the Catholic church. They pretended to be Catholics and went on to preach, and some became leaders. The church has suffered greatly. Christ warned us that we would be attacked. I give gladly to revive the church.
Okay. The title is almost exactly the same as two other articles. I did not check the content.
Good news, yes, as long as the accused priests are truly guilty and not just getting caught up in a witch hunt. I’m all for getting the homosexual priests out of the church so that the remaining 90-something percent of Catholic priests can go on with the amazing work they do without being afraid of false accusations.
***Yet many in the congregation are told their offerings are not going to pay these abuse court cases.

That doesn’t even make sense. Catholics want the mess cleaned up. And in all my years in the Catholic church I’ve NEVER heard a priest say anything like that.
***Do you have a source for this claim?***
Yes, it was right here on FR. You can find it under “Catholic” in the search engine.
What’s with these so-called “gay” predators? Sure...being a homosexual is normal and acceptable. Sure..
Read my post #12.
A celibate clergy makes no sense. What you end up with is a clergy dominated by men with a lot of baggage. Most normal men would not take up this vocation, while deviants would. The deviant feels that by taking the vow of celibacy he can be free of his deviancy, but it never works. It will always come out in the end. Back in the 50’s a friend of my father went to seminary briefly. He came back a told my father that the place was just full of homos.
Every way possible to shine light on this problem is good.
The Church has to feel enough pain that they do what's right. The 'oh so open minded' among Catholics are destroying the Church. God can forgive these priests - but on this world, they need to be treated like the predators they are - and that includes jail time.
We all need to forgive those who have repented - but we can forgive them while they sit in jail just as easily as forgiving them while they play golf...
We all need to forgive those who have repented - but we can forgive them while they sit in jail just as easily as forgiving them while they play golf...
Amen!
I’m sorry but this is a really odd thing to say. “Clergy dominated by men with a lot of baggage”. You do realize that over 90% of Catholic priests are NOT deviants, right? They are incredibly holy men devoted to their calling.
The story three times, the identical news article only twice.
Well, twice so far anyway.
You must have a Ph.D in psychology. That was absolutely brilliant psychoanalysis on the typical Catholic seminarian.
The story would have been front page news.
Twenty-one RC pastors suspended in one city! Rome outdoes itself.
Well, I guess the goal here is to make sure than everyone in the world knows about it because there are never any jokes or snide comments about priests and little boys. I’m sure there is still someone out there that is unaware of the very small percentages of deviant priests.
‘Tis true, in the USA anyway. They are all very spoiled and privileged boys who never grew up.
In the ‘forties, they hid out in the seminaries to avoid the draft. While real Catholic men were fighting and dying for their country.
Yep. Never miss a chance.
Many thanks! I’ll have to bookmark that for a later read.
How many have been falsely accused? (There is $$$$ in it, and plenty of it.) We’ll never know. Remember the ‘recovered memory’ mania? This is the same.
I will stand with you, I do not revel and exult when I see a Christian fall and there are many more standing silently with you. It is one thing to express shock and sadness, it is another to relish rubbing salt into the wounds. Even if this turns out to be larger, there are saintly directives in what we need to do.
“What then should a Catholic do if some part of the Church were to separate itself from communion with the universal Faith? What other choice can he make but to prefer to the gangrenous and corrupted member the whole of the body that is sound. And if some new contagion were to try to poison no longer a small part of the Church, but all of the Church at the same time, then he will take the greatest care to attach himself to antiquity which, obviously, can no longer be seduced by any lying novelty.” (Commonitorium)
ST. VINCENT OF LERINS (400-450 AD) CONFESSOR OF THE CHURCH
MSM lies? Well, not when it fits our agenda, right?
Let us say, hypothetically, that 25 priests have been accused. And let us say that among the accusers have been 50 false accusers. (This is, by the way, nothing hypothetical, the false accusers in all cases outnumber the accused priests.) What is then the moral scandal? You choose yours (the one that MSM chooses for you), I choose mine.
One woman named Bella Dodd who had been the co-chairman of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) testified before a house or senate committee in the late 40's that she had placed many men in the seminaries from the 20's on,they were to infiltrate the seminaries and consequently through the years, the Church. I believe the thought and intent was that by the 60's the Church would be destroyed from within.
She left the party and became Catholic. She wrote a book that is hard, but possible,to find,it was called "The Edge Of Darkness".

Yeah, that's right. Blame the victim.
We'll never know.
Well, we'll definitely never know if Rome keeps covering up for these pederast priests and hiding them, supporting them and even promoting them.
As a Christian, I am saddened for the victims and outraged at the pederast priests and the church that protects them. They belong in jail where they won't be able to further destroy childrens' lives.
Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the kingdom of God. Whoever can accept this ought to accept it" (Matt. 19:1112).
There are over 410,000 Catholic priests in the world. What's the historical rate of involvement in these scandals? Between 1.5 and 5%, which is comparable or less among protestant churches and other groups.
Christian Science Monitor had an article on this very thing: Sex abuse spans spectrum of churches
Reality: you hear disproportionately about the Catholic Church scandals because the church is a very old, large, patriarchal force for morality and Christian tradition. The stories are perfect headline bait and further the progressive's agenda to undermine a conservative tradition rooted in moral absolutes with over a billion adherents.
Please let me help you. Here’s the post on FR explaining my statement from the Communists
that:
“In the 1930’s, we put eleven hundred men into the priesthood in order to destroy the Church from within.”
Please notice that it says hundred, not thousand as I mistakenly reported.

He we go again, good grief!
Prayers for the Archiocesse.
We get it.
That was interesting and I suppose not too surprising. My first reaction was to thank God for Bishop Finn in Kansas City now. This weeding put process has been painful but is such a blessing. Imagine how much stronger the Church will be when the riff raff is gone.
