Ultra-Orthodox Jews Harass Israeli Believers
CBN ^

Posted on 03/12/2011 11:25:57 AM PST by Amerisrael

ARAD, Israel - For the past seven years, the small Messianic Jewish community in the southern Israeli town of Arad has been harassed and persecuted by ultra-Orthodox Jews who accuse them of missionary activity.

The small desert town, with a population of 25,000 mostly secular residents, is home to a growing number of Israeli believers.

Yakim Figueras, pastor of one of the four congregations there, told CBN News that for years, religious Jews have subjected the believing community to sometimes daily cursing and harassment outside their homes.

"They come with either half-truths against us or complete lies…and they entice their own people and try to bring others against us," Figueras said.

On Wednesday, a demonstration organized by Yad L'achim, the aggressive anti-missionary organization, brought about 200 protesters to the home of Polly Sigulim. Their message was clear.

They should follow Jesus’s Example.

Turn the other cheek, words are words, ultimately in the Jewish tradition, they will have to declare peace otherwise they aren’t orthodox at all.

Yeah, a few years back a Purim package was left on the doorstep of Messianic family in Israel. It had a bomb in it. The family's son found it and was badly injured:

The suspect, a violent anti-missionary:

“Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother...But just as then the child born according to the flesh persecuted the one born according to the Spirit, so also now.”

The Shtreimel.

The story is that it was the headgear of Polish and Russian nobles in the 17th century.

In some Orthodox groups only the rebbe wears one.

Messianic faiths come in many forms, including some groups who are actually replacement theologists, and even some doomsday prophecy missionaries.

In other words, they go to Israel, defy Israel’s laws against missionary work, and prostyletize Orthodox Jews by telling them they’re going to hell if they don’t change their beliefs to worshipping Christianity.

Now consider these groups are populated and in some cases, antagonizing Israel’s Jews, in the very regions which are the most controversial to live in, and daily life is under the threat of those who want to exterminate you. So these missionary groups are fueling an already volatile situation, and what they often represent is not really Christian Zionism, but something else entirely.

The Parable of the Tenants

Matthew 21v33 “Hear another parable. There was a master of a house who planted a vineyard and put a fence around it and dug a winepress in it and built a tower and leased it to tenants, and went into another country. 34 When the season for fruit drew near, he sent his servants [3] to the tenants to get his fruit. 35 And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and stoned another. 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them. 37 Finally he sent his son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the tenants saw the son, they said to themselves, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and have his inheritance.’ 39 And they took him and threw him out of the vineyard and killed him. 40 When therefore the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those tenants?” 41 They said to him, “He will put those wretches to a miserable death and let out the vineyard to other tenants who will give him the fruits in their seasons.”

42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:

“‘The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
this was the Lord’s doing,
and it is marvelous in our eyes’?

43 Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits. 44 And the one who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”

Obadiah 1
10 Because of the violence against your brother Jacob,
you will be covered with shame;
you will be destroyed forever.
11 On the day you stood aloof
while strangers carried off his wealth
and foreigners entered his gates
and cast lots for Jerusalem,
you were like one of them.
12 You should not gloat over your brother
in the day of his misfortune,
nor rejoice over the people of Judah
in the day of their destruction,
nor boast so much
in the day of their trouble.
13 You should not march through the gates of my people
in the day of their disaster,
nor gloat over them in their calamity
in the day of their disaster,
nor seize their wealth
in the day of their disaster.
14 You should not wait at the crossroads
to cut down their fugitives,
nor hand over their survivors
in the day of their trouble.

15 “The day of the LORD is near
for all nations.
As you have done, it will be done to you;
your deeds will return upon your own head.
16 Just as you drank on my holy hill,
so all the nations will drink continually;
they will drink and drink
and be as if they had never been.
17 But on Mount Zion will be deliverance;
it will be holy,
and Jacob will possess his inheritance.
18 Jacob will be a fire
and Joseph a flame;
Esau will be stubble,
and they will set him on fire and destroy him.
There will be no survivors
from Esau.”
The LORD has spoken.

A Kingdom That Cannot Be Shaken

Hebrews 12v18 For you have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire and darkness and gloom and a tempest 19 and the sound of a trumpet and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that no further messages be spoken to them. 20 For they could not endure the order that was given, “If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned.” 21 Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, “I tremble with fear.” 22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23 and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

25 See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven. 26 At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” 27 This phrase, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of things that are shaken—that is, things that have been made—in order that the things that cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, 29 for our God is a consuming fire.

Hadn’t heard about the violent reaction! A huge problem with some messianic groups is that the try to pass themselves off as Jews in order to lure in not very knowledgeable Jews to view them as authentic. I certainly don’t care if they believe as they do, but it is the cloak of deception that is really vile.

What’s the point of posting the biblical verse? To demonstrate the type of rhetoric a missionary might use that might be viewed as a provocation?

“A huge problem with some messianic groups is that the try to pass themselves off as Jews”

Absolutely true. Part of it is to skirt Israel’s laws, but part of it is to misrepresent themselves as the real Jews who are enlightened, and avoid criticism of being connected to the stigma of a Jews for Jesus type group.

“What is your faith?”

Frankly, it’s none of your business what my faith is.

Intolerant dogma is just that. You might as well be ranting about the 12th Imam.
