Koran Burnt in Florida Church

GAINESVILLE, Florida (AFP) – A controversial US evangelical preacher oversaw the burning of a copy of the Koran in a small Florida church after finding the Muslim holy book "guilty" of crimes.

The burning was carried out by pastor Wayne Sapp under the supervision of Terry Jones, who last September drew sweeping condemnation over his plan to ignite a pile of Korans on the anniversary of September 11, 2001 attacks.

Sunday's event was presented as a trial of the book in which the Koran was found "guilty" and "executed."

The jury deliberated for about eight minutes. The book, which had been soaking for an hour in kerosene, was put in a metal tray in the center of the church, and Sapp started the fire with a barbecue lighter.

The book burned for around 10 minutes while some onlookers posed for photos.

Jones had drawn trenchant condemnation from many people, including US President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Secretary of Defense Robert Gates, over his plan to burn the Muslim holy book in September.

He did not carry out his plan then and vowed he never would, saying he had made his point.

I bet this makes bigger news than the driftwood cross that was removed from the shore of Orange Beach AL.

It was like the Klan burning crosses......he wasn’t burning the Koran. He was lighting it, as a way to show people the light. /s

The old Etch-a-Sketch toys were full of very fine aluminum powder, or with some effort and with the use of a grinder and a shop vac you can grind up some aluminum thats fine enough to use, then you buy a couple bags of cheap very fine steel wool, soak them in a vinegar/water mix and then put out to dry.

The steel wool will turn into iron oxide, the mixture is roughly 2 parts aluminum powder to iron oxide but I may be wrong, it requires a little heat to ignite, a torch or a highway flare will work.

If this is too much of a project a poormans thermite can be made by just buying several highway flares, cut them open and pulverize the material, cover the Koran with this material and ignite, makes a beautiful awesome red glow seen a long way away.

They could have hung it on a coathanger in the Outhouse. It is as big as the old Sears Catalog.

I don't think that you should burn the Koran. Medium well-done is probably good enough.

Somehow I am sure the media will blow this out of proportion to whip up a Muslim Jihad.

Idiots burn books, unless they are, like many of the rural poor, burning unwanted books in a woodstove for heating fuel. But with a book like the Koran, Mein Kampf, or the Bible, far better to read and understand and discuss the book, hayna? Or no?

And “Burnt”? My grandparents say, and write, “burnt”, “learnt” and such, but I’ve never seen either in a newspaper headline.

Burning a Koran is a combination turkey call, scent attractant and salt lick all rolled up in one.

Sometimes the prey is very hard to flush out, a burning Koran almost positively guarantees they will come running.

After all look what Obama did the last time someone burnt a Koran, he sicked his SS on them!

I think that person simply threatened to burn one.

We should all be holding rallies in the town square where we burn Korans.
