Atheists Tear Out Pages From the Bible
The Christian Post ^ | September 18, 2011 | Audrey Barrick

In a public display of opposition against Christianity, a group of atheists on Saturday tore apart photocopies of Bible verses that they view as immoral and illegal.
The demonstration was led by more than a dozen members of a humanist group called Backyard Skeptics at the base of the Huntington Beach pier in Southern California...
..."I just want to tear out pages of the Bible that are illegal," Gleason said, according to The Orange County Register.
Backyard Skeptics has become increasingly visible and vocal in Orange County with the launch of several billboard ad campaigns and regular "outreaches" on the pier throughout the year.
At its peak, the latest atheist outreach event on Saturday drew about 100 people, with some Christians choosing to engage the group in a debate.

Guess they didn't have anything more constructive to do on Saturday.

"Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up ..."

Does that violate Obamacare or something?

I wouldn’t worry about this. I’m sure they will be tearing up a Koran next week.

Pikers. If they really want to prove their conviction, they’d do the same with a Koran.

I’ll bet it never happens. :)

SO!?!?!

Was it my Bible which my church gave to me on my day of baptism? Was it my Family Bible which has been passed down four generations now?

If not, then so what? They purchased a Bible and then destroyed it. And....?????

The Word of God is not in that one (or two) type-written books which they destroyed; the Word of God, and the salvation that it brings, is written in the hearts of man!

A Bible is no holier than the man who reads it, studies it and lives it. Otherwise, it is just a book. In this case, it was just a book in the hands of some idiot looking for attention.

Atheists Tear Out Pages From the Bible

No no, they need to get their story right. They were tearing pages out of the Koran, and later using them for toilet paper.

So how many atheists will be murdered as a result?

Let them do the same to the Koran in Saudi Arabia.

Pray for these people. Through their hatred they have earned their reward.
Now, for the leftist media and their sycophants of all stripes comparing Christians to muslims: Where are the jihads and death threats?
This makes me mad for sure, but again, they have earned their reward.

All true. I'm just curious why they're increasingly in-your-face with their anger.
And, as others have suggested, when is it the Koran's turn?

Does this constitute a Hate Crime?  If I publicly tore up a Koran, you bet I'd be charged with one.

It won’t ever be the Koran’s turn because even atheists recognize the Bible as a holy book and the Koran as humanist/statanist garbage.......you know a house divided and all

What a stupid title!

If they are atheists then they don't believe there is a God so the Bible is just another book. Aren't there any other books that contain passages they think are "illegal"?

The headline might as well have said "Atheists tear out pages from Moby Dick"...

Agree with you that it’s of no consequence, but I do find some humor in this. You said:

“They purchased a Bible and then destroyed it. And....?????”

Not even that! The photocopied some pages out of a Bible (I’m betting one from a library cuz they were too cheap to buy one), and tore those up! I’m sorry, but if they can’t even appreciate the dramatic value that would be added to their protest by tearing pages out of ACTUAL BIBLES, then I can assume it’s some type of satirical performance art they are attempting. Therefore, I laugh heartily at their clever mockery of hysterical atheists. Bravo!

It’s just paper and ink - it changes the Word of God not one whit.

The fool has said in his heart, "There is no God". . .

An appropriate quote of Scripture. God says a lot about false religions, corrupt worship. He doesn't say a whole lot about folks that deny He exists.

An old country boy preacher from Missouri told me this years ago. He said: "We're told atheists don't believe there is a god. - It seems more and more like they are wishing there isn't a god."

You are right. Context is everything. I have torn up dozens of Bibles. Reason? I worked for a company that printed Bibles, which require VERY thin paper, and we had to destroy the ones that had defects.

“Did you see the comments? Did you notice that the Christian Post allows the atheists and liberals to take over the reply comments without a moderator.”

This is happening because the Christian Post is expecting people to sign in with their Facebook I.D. I’ve tried to sign up with my old non-Facebook account and I’m not able to do so anymore.

This practice has given the atheists and agnostic an extra courage to post on Christian groups, since many Christians prefer to remain anonymous.

Tear out pages if you like. The Word of God is not just the Written Word, it is Jesus Christ who IS the Word of God.

My sin; beginning not to care about them.

That is my sin as well. To be honest, I haven't cared about them for years. Then again, we are admonished not to cast our pearls before swine. If a man choses to starve to death in front of a feast, what can be done for it?

Aaaargh my least favorite thing about Bibles, that awful thin paper!!! I searched high and low for a Bible printed on "normal" paper. I found a few, but the print in them was nearly microscopic.

I'd have been willing to carry around a thick book...really I would have!!! I do my readings on my Kindle now, so I don't neet to worry about it any more.

We’re called to be a witness. To live and speak what we believe. Jesus never forced people to accept His gift of divinity, neither are we responsible for someone’s conversion. Pearls before swine, but I still pray for my family.

Carrying around the thick book is not the problem ... finding a bindery machine that can handle it reliably is. It is no coincidence that the largest Bible printer also is a big time player for metropolitan telephone books.

Prayer is all we can do in many cases. There have been people in my own family with consciences so seared that even the most oblique or even unintentional acts of witness (like mentioning a church activity in passing) are met with overt, angry rejection.
