Not at all. He would have rose from the dead, intact, no matter what. My point was in regards to cremation. For me, since cremation was not part of the plan, you don't have to be. Whether or not we can, I have no idea. When I'm unsure, I try to find out what Jesus did, and do that....well at least try to do it (and fail miserably a lot of the time).

My mother passed away this past November and was cremated. There was no objection from the Catholic Church at all. And we happen to live in the Arch-Diocese of Arlington, VA, probably the most conservative Arch-Diocese in the Western Hemisphere!

He wasn't cremated, but crucified, died and was buried (not that you should be crucified).

But Christ was "buried" in a tomb ABOVE GROUND. Not quite what we think of as a "burial".

Cremation is frowned upon because fire and burning have always negative connotations in the Bible. (This is why heretics were burned at the stake.) My pastor recommends against cremation, but he says it won’t affect your salvation.

Plenty of saved Christians have died in fire through history (martyrs, 9/11, house fires, etc) and there is no doubt they are with Our Father and His Son.

Don’t be so hard on yourself. Get on one of those religion threads. Plenty there to beat you without Mercy.

I wonder how much of that frowning was based on the fact the Church tended to be the only owner of cemeteries, back in the day - and is still a major owner of cemeteries world-wide?

Actually none of it is based on that at all.

The reasons that the Catholic Church originally opposed it was due to Masonic belief/ practices. Cremation was seen as a denial of the Bodily Resurrection which the Catholic Church has always taught will occur at the end of time.

You see this belief in the Apostles creed: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

As well as the Nicene Creed:We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

>>Of course, the multi-million-dollar Catholic cemetery business would go bust if the Church taught otherwise.<<

Peace on Earth, good will to men.

My dad died in 1982. He was cremated and buried in a Catholic cemetary. 300.00 for the plot, 275.00 for the cremation and 50.00 to bury him.

My mom died in 1989. She was cremated and buried in the SAME PLOT (there is room for 4 more cremanes) The price went up to 500.00 for the cremation and still 50.00 to bury her.

So while you think it’s “all about money in the Catholic Church” I can count on myself, my husband and each of my children going into that plot for a big ole 200.00.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to find out some facts before posting insults.

Everything in the Catholic Church comes down to money.

Bigotry never goes out of style, does it?

The bible speaks of “the Spirit/spirit” which is other than the human body..
What exactly the spirit is no one knows.. (completely)

But the human body is indeed “transportation”.. among other things.
Roy Rogers had Trigger stuffed!!.. Why not?..

My father and my mother's bodies were all buried, and the total costs for fneral home, burial in accordance with Tennessee law, cemetery plot, funeral Mass and graveside prayers, etc.)

For the religious services, nobody said one word about cost: not one word even about a "suggested donation." We finally --- just on our own initiative --- gave the choral director $25 for the benefit of the choir's expenses: she was utterly surprised and said nobody had every done that before.

You are quite mistaken, my friend.

They still have those. You don’t have to be buried underground.

Cool - so it’s not based on Biblical passages but creeds written several centuries after Jesus’ time. And nothing about the Church owning the only “approved” places for burial for hundreds of years...

One thing is for sure— if it’s okay in the Bible the atheists /left-wing fanatics will find a way to disallow it.

Bigotry and facts are never friends. Bigotry never says "I am sorry", never says "I was wrong". Bigotry simply exists, like Original Sin.
