Prayer request, follow up

My father in law, the beloved great grandfather of our 9 grand children, died a few hours ago. As a Catholic it pains me to ask for selfish prayers. But screw that, this is a guy I loved and respected more than you can imagine. He was a father to me in truth, not just a courtesy father borrowed from my wife.

Please help us send him home. He wasn't what you would call the most devout person on the planet, but he believed in God and right. He lived right.

I'll not see him in purgatory.

Thank you.

One of the quickest way to release souls from purgatory is through having Masses said for them. I also do Eucharistic Adoration every Wednesday, and I will pray for him then, also, which is a great way to pray for the poor souls.

I’m sorry to hear this. Death of such a great man who meant so much to you will be hard. Sounds like a great role model for his grandchildren and their children. A big loss. Jesus already greeted him with a welcome Home hug. As is written, absent from the body, present with The Lord.

Meant to add the Scripture

2 Cor 5:6-8

"Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight)"

"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."

My condolences to you and your family on the death of your Grandfather. I will pray for his soul and for the healing of those he left behind. Be assured that the love he received in this life will accompany him on his journey in the afterlife. When you are emotionally able to do so, talk to him as if he were alive and express that love you felt for him. They hear us. God bless.

He had the same job as me in the army when he was young. I am playing our unit song - wasn’t his, but he knows it.

God our Father,

Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.

Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.

In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.

Amen.

Me neither. What a blessing to have grandparents or even to have met them. Especially how EnglishCon described his grandfather through marriage.

I will pray for his sweet soul and for comfort for your family.

May God bless and keep you all.

In 1943, he walked through nearly 600 miles of hostile territory. Got to his fathers unit who were hiding in the hills, grabbed a rifle and did the same job as I did 40 years later.

His soul is not clan - no more than mine is - but he did good.
