The early favourite to become the next Archbishop of Canter-bury - spiritual leaders of the world's Anglicans - is the victim of "naked racism" by critics who are trying to besmirch his name, one of his closest sup-porters said.
..Arora's accusation of an "anonymous whispering" campaign against the archbishop has the potential to be hugely damaging to the church. It recalls the last time the Church sought a new Archbishop of Canterbury, in 2002, when the Michael Nazir-Ali, then Bishop of Rochester, was described as a "Paki Papist" by an unidentified cleric.
..., two bishops who spoke to the Sunday Telegraph on condition of anonymity drew, unprompted, on Sentamu's African birth in their criticism - one likening the archbishop's temperament to that of an "African chief."
He said: "I think Sentamu is clearly going to be a very strong front-runner, although I think there are also the people who are not quite sure that he is suitable in terms of the way he behaves, because he is quite tribal and the African chief thing comes through.
..The retired bishop said Sentamu's African background was apparent in "his understanding around issues of human sexuality." Sentamu has opposed British government proposals for same-sex marriage.
..{the Archbishop}..received racist emails after speaking out against plans to legalize same-sex marriage.
A split in the Church over the plans deepened Saturday when a senior bishop said it was making a "disastrous" error in its opposition to same-sex marriage.
The Bishop of Salisbury, Nicholas Holtam, compared bishops opposing marriage reforms to 18th century Christians who believed slavery was "God-given." His intervention will be seen as an attack on traditionalists, including Sentamu.

Good Lord. Now racism is interplanetary?
Yes, the funny thing is that the slave-holding “Christians” wouldn’t permit blacks to read the bible, or else they’d start believing that slavery was wrong. Meanwhile the KKK and the core of the Confederate power structure were from the southern jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite of Freemasons, which were pagan, not Christian. (Washington was a freemason, and was a Christian, but his Freemasonry had only 3 rituals, not the 33 of the Scottish Rite.)
The objection to the African Anglicans is that they are trying to restore Christianity in the North America and British Anglican churches.
Somehow, I love the image of the African Christians coming to Britain and North America to convert the benighted heathens native to those areas.
The Rev. Arun Arora seems to have overlooked the obvious, to wit: If "naked racisms" were that big a problem, Sentamu wouldn't have broken "the chains of History" already and become a bishop in the first place.
The cited criticism of him has to do with his behavior and opinions:
"not quite sure that he is suitable in terms of the way he behaves"This is "naked racism" only to those who are obsessed with race themselves--and those who use it for purposes of manipulation."There is some-thing in Sentamu which retains his African views and approach"
"Sentamu's African background was apparent in 'his understanding around issues of human sexuality.'"
"Sentamu has opposed British government proposals for same-sex marriage."
It's more likely evidence of opposition to the naked decadence that has suffused the Church of England along with the rest of Western Civilization, naked decadence expressed in the groupthink, newspeak, adoration of Big Brother, and other cultural cliché accepted as truth by those who lack the wit and the moral compass to resist the forces of decadence.
It's hard to imagine "moments" more "outrageous" than those of Rowan Williams.
It's even harder to imagine a man like Rowan Williams managing to "balance" out anyone or anything.
And it's hard to imagine Sentamu as anything but an improvement over the present Archbishop of Canturbury. The Bishop of Norwich may very well be level-headed and sensible, may actually do the job well and have more stability, but the opposition to Sentamu is far less likely due to "naked racism" (after all Afrophilia is one of the cherished fetishes of decadent groupthink) than to a heretical resistance to decadence and groupthink.
These jackasses do not even know their own glorious history.
It was Anglicans of the 18th Century who led the fight against slavery that resulted in the abolition of the European Slave Trade. Surely their finest hour.
technically I think it was the Methodists who lead this.
"The Left" is all that it purports to condemn. Its very self-annointed designations, e.g. "liberal", "progressive", etc., are the opposite of what it really is. It's newspeak.
The Left is racist--and bigotted, oppressive, illiberal, intolerant, conformist--all the negative qualities that it accuses its opponents of having.
The media is complicit in all this distortion and deception because it is dominated by "the Left", which typically when confronted with truth resorts to ad hominem or other ignominious attacks.
As you can see, I have no respect for so-called "liberalism." It is decadence. It is a disease that will destroy all that is good, all that good people cherish and love, its adherents fools and scoundrels, any good intentions that they have paving the Road to Hell.
It seems to me that African or any other points of view that remain unsuffused with the decadence that has infected and promises to destroy Western Civilization may be healthy antidotes.
Apparently this Easter effort caused a stir in York... it’s just “not done” in the C of E -
Uppity slave owners, they shouldn’t be allowed to breath anymore! The New Black Panther Party boyz should have a list of all descendants of slave owner’s
then Rev. Al or Rev. Jax could lead a gang of NBPP to be their judge, jury and executioner.
Much Too Evangelic
LOL!!! Outdoor, full-body baptisms at the very start of April; There’s a plenty good reason that’s not done in the Church of ENGLAND. (Chuch of Florida, maybe...)
I appreciate your sensitivities about conservatives mimicking the left about racism, but it’s plain that the liberals are inserting his race into it for the purpose of making him seem alien. After all, they don’t state what’s wrong with his views and approach in any terms other than that they are African. “He rules like a tribal chief,” they say. Well, how is it that tribal chiefs rule? They want to conjure up stereotypes of primitives with bones in their noses and big, black cauldrons for boiling missionaries, and topless dancers gyrating madly to drum beats to a pagan god.
Perhaps even more insidiously, they want to appeal to the British sense of racial superiority, the sense that it is a perversion of the natural order for the colonial primitives to be taking seats of moral leadership; “No, here is an errant pupil of ours, who has only understood the broad strokes our civilizing of him, while his primate mind is too simple to grasp the subtleties of culture and polite society.”
I wondered, when I read the article, how a tribal chief rules and how Bishop Sentamu's critics would know.
What's really amusing is the vision of English Bishops and Archbishops, staid, self-congratulatory, suffused with decadence and enamored of decadent dogma, with bones in THEIR noses, surrounded by topless dancers gyrating madly to drum beats, and with big, black cauldrons for boiling heretics who do not accept the new religion Decadence! "Liberalism"! and its pagan god Big Brother!
It'll be hilarious when their errant pupil reverses their natural order and they realize that it is THEIR primate minds that are too simple to grasp the subtleties of truth.
Keep the brilliant writing flowing, Dangus! It brightens everything with the light of truth and amuses everyone with a comic irony that Jane Austen herself would envy!
This happened in a local, liberal congregation who wound up getting a traditionalist from Africa. This isn’t surprising, because liberalism = bigotry. Thanks Cronos.
