In a recent post, I slammed black pastors for failing to stand up for their Christian faith in the face of attack by Nation of Islam supreme leader Louis Farrakhan.
So, in fairness, I must applaud members of the black clergy who have put Biblical principle above racial hegemony in their public criticism of President Obama for his ungodly support of homosexual marriage.
I love the president, said Rev. Emmitt Burns, pastor of Rising Sun Baptist Church in Baltimore, but I cannot support what he has done. He told CNN that the presidents failure to defend traditional marriage between one man and one woman will lead to his defeat in November.
Rev. Burns sentiments were echoed by Rev. Keith Ogden, pastor of Hill Street Baptist Church in Ashville, N.C. He is not God, he said of Obama. And he doesnt speak for all black folk just because hes African American.
Much of the black community feels the same way as Revs. Burns and Ogden, as borne out by a poll last month by Pew Research Center, in which 49 percent of blacks expressed their opposition to gay marriage, compared to 39 percent in favor.
I suspect that many black churchgoers feel just as offended as the broader faith community that Obama dared to attributes his so-called evolution on homosexual marriage to Christian values he and his wife Michelle supposedly share.
We are both practicing Christians, the president claimed last week, in an interview that aired on ABC News, and obviously this position may be considered to put us at odds with the views of others.
But, he continued, when we think about our faith, the thing at root that we think about is, not only Christ sacrificing Himself on our behalf, but its also the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you would want to be treated.
Well, the Golden Rule does indeed instruct us to treat others as we wish to be treated ourselves. But it certainly does not tell us we must blithely accept sin.
And the last time I checked, the Bible clearly identified homosexuality as a sin. Thou shall not lie with a man, as with a woman, the Scripture declares. It is abomination.
So to endorse homosexual marriage, as the president has, is to defy Gods law. It is to side with those practicing the very abomination for which the Almighty destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gommorah.
And, for Obama, the falsehearted Christian, it is to break faith with the black community on one of the great moral issues of our time.
Dang auto correct.
You laugh, but it is already happening among blacks I know. Obama thinks he can patch it up and keep his rag-tag "outcasts and victims" coalition alive by tacking toward gays while keeping blacks on board against their better judgment. With some this will work, but with many it will not. The black community may have it's problems with family cohesion, but they still, by and large, instinctively see marriage as being about a man and a woman. IMHO, Obama will lose this bet.
Negative, negative, negative. The Blacks will continue to vote for race over Barry’s “gayness”. Ninety four percent will vote for him as a “born again” gay lover as opposed to 95 percent who would have voted for Barry before his “coming out” for gay marriage statement.
No, Barry parsed his words, and really didn’t admit it, but the MSM is spinning it for Barry like he did. The gays have drunk the Kool-Aid and think he’s in league with them. As far as the Blacks are concerned, RACE trumps everything else.
Their opposition to homosexuality is 100% phony. Farrakhan (y'sh"v) makes speeches blaming homosexuality on Jews in Hollywood but his paper still endorses "the Black Left" (in those very words).
Farrakhan doesn't even really believe in G-d. It's all a pose for him.
I’m afraid you’re right MasterGunner01.
You think it'll be like Prop. 8 in California?
