It's Not Just Words But Power
05-23-12 | Frank Broom

God's word is not just words, but power. The same power that formed the earth is in The Bible. But when you refuse to put it on your lips all that power goes to waste. God said his word would not return to him void, but it shall accomplish what he pleases (Isaiah 55:11). Well, for it to accomplish what God pleases it has to have power. But notice it shall accomplish when it is returned to him. How is it returned to him? When you speak it you are returning his word to him. So every day you don't put the word of God on your lips you fail to put the power of God to work for you.

The same power that created the universe is capable of making your life just what God called for. But without the word on your lips it will not accomplish for you. The word of God is capable of creating a life of health, joy, and peace. God gave you his word which is his power and a free will. You take his power and create what you want in your life. If you are sick create healing in your body. The scripture "By whose stripes ye were healed" has enough power in it to heal any sickness. If you're lacking finances take the word and create prosperity. If you want success you create it in your life. Isn't that what God told Joshua "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous and then thou shalt have good success." Notice, the success he was to have was dependent on the word coming out of his mouth. Don't treat the word of God like it's just words, but power. Imagine how much better your life would be if you did what God said, keep his word in your mouth.

Speak the word and let it create for you. Let the word do it's job. It's capable of bringing into your life exactly what God has already called for. But it has to be on your lips to do it. Sometimes we see things in the natural, but not the spiritual. For instance, when you go into a dark room the first thing you do is flip the light switch. Failure to do so can cause you to stumble in darkness even with all the power needed to walk in light is right there. So likewise, failure to put the word on your lips can cause you to walk in sickness, poverty, and all other things God never intended for you to have even though you may know the word of God. But, failure to put the word on your lips keeps the power from working for you. The word of God is not just words, but power.

Revelation 2:10:

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer. Behold, the devil will cast some of you into prison that you may be tried: and you shall have tribulation ten days. Be thou faithful until death: and I will give thee the crown of life.

Our true prosperity is in Heaven.

<< Matthew 10 >>
New American Standard Bible
28“Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. 29“Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31“So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.
32“Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. 33“But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.

34“Do not think that I came to bring peace on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35“For I came to SET A MAN AGAINST HIS FATHER, AND A DAUGHTER AGAINST HER MOTHER, AND A DAUGHTER-IN-LAW AGAINST HER MOTHER-IN-LAW; 36and A MAN’S ENEMIES WILL BE THE MEMBERS OF HIS HOUSEHOLD.

37“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me; and he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. 38“And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. 39“He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for My sake will find it.

Excellent post. My favorite scripture on this topic is Paul's assertion that they did not operate in word only ...

"For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake." (1 Thess 1:5)

This post is a good example of twisting Scripture to make it say what you want it to say. For example:

But notice it shall accomplish when it is returned to him.

This is not what the Scripture cited (Isaiah 55:11) says. The point is that just as the rain and snow come down from heaven and do not return there without watering the earth and thereby causing it to produce a harvest (which is exactly what God intended for the rain and snow to do); so also the word of God that goes out of God's mouth--it accomplishes everything that God intends for it to accomplish.

This is a powerful statement of God's will of decree; that all that God purposes to do, He will do. There is no mention of any man speaking God's word. Notice that the text says, "My word . . . which goes forth from My mouth." This is God determining what shall be done, God speaking (putting into action) His plan, and the plan fully accomplishing all of God's purpose.

What God has decreed to happen will happen regardless of what any man may say or do.

good1 you said there’s no mention of man speaking, but the scripture says “my word will not return to me void”, so who is returning his word to him. And I disagree with what you said about your words having no effect on what happen with God. In Luke chapter 1 when the angel told Zacharius he and his wife were going to have a son and he asked for a sign which was a sign of unbelief the angel shut his mouth until the child was born and he agreed his name would be John. And the children of Isreal when they spied out the Promised Land and the ten spies came back with an evil report and the congregation said they would die in the wilderness and this was after God promised them the land and GOD said “As ye have spoken in my ears so will I do unto you. What you say determines what you receive from God. The word of God is always good, but you can speak against it and not receive what God said.

So likewise, failure to put the word on your lips can cause you to walk in sickness, poverty, and all other things God never intended for you to have even though you may know the word of God.

If only the Apostle Paul knew about this. He suffered so much poverty and hardship needlessly.

Paul made a huge mistake when he prayed to God to remove the thorn in the flesh. He should have just declared himself healed and had faith in faith and God would have been forced to act on his behalf. Such a shame Paul didn’t have Kenneth Copland to teach him how to deal with his afflictions./s

I suspect you are a follower of the "Word/Faith" movement. Your posts display a disregard of God's sovereignty and a fondness for man's sovereignty. In your view, nothing happens without man's consent or agreement.

In your example from Luke, Zacharius' faith had no bearing on whether or not the child, John the Baptist, would be born. Zacharius' muteness was a chastisement from God for his unbelief and had no effect on what God had previously determined to do.

On the issue of entering the promised land, the people received in themselves the consequence of their sin of unbelief. Their words reflected what they believed in their hearts.God's punishment for their sin would have happened if they had said nothing at all, just didn't believe they could enter and conquer the land.

The phrase, "will not return to Me empty" is the Hebrew way of saying, "What I have said I will do, I will do." In Isaiah 55:11, the illustration is the rain. It falls from heaven, it accomplishes the purpose for which God sent it, and it returns to heaven (v.10) without any activity, act, or spoken word, from man. It is the same way with God's word, which He speaks in absolute sovereignty, it goes forth and the word itself performs the tasks for which God sent it. It is just another way of saying that what God decrees to do, He will do.

Consider Isaiah 46:11, "Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, surely I will do it." And what is God talking about? Verse 10 tells us, "My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure." What any man may say, or not say, has nothing to do with it.

This world, and everything in it does not revolve around man. It revolves around God.

But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. [1 John 2:27]

Good to see the anointing shining through your post here Frank!

Acts 5
Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA)
5 But a certain man named Ananias, with Saphira his wife, sold a piece of land,
2 And by fraud kept back part of the price of the land, his wife being privy thereunto: and bringing a certain part of it, laid it at the feet of the apostles.
3 But Peter said: Ananias, why hath Satan tempted thy heart, that thou shouldst lie to the Holy Ghost, and by fraud keep part of the price of the land?
4 Whilst it remained, did it not remain to thee? and after it was sold, was it not in thy power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thy heart? Thou hast not lied to men, but to God.
5 And Ananias hearing these words, fell down, and gave up the ghost. And there came great fear upon all that heard it.
6 And the young men rising up, removed him, and carrying him out, buried him.
7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what had happened, came in.
8 And Peter said to her: Tell me, woman, whether you sold the land for so much? And she said: Yea, for so much.
9 And Peter said unto her: Why have you agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold the feet of them who have buried thy husband are at the door, and they shall carry thee out.
10 Immediately she fell down before his feet, and gave up the ghost. And the young men coming in, found her dead: and carried her out, and buried her by her husband.
11 And there came great fear upon the whole church, and upon all that heard these things.

good1 I never said nothing happens without man’s consent or agreement those are your words. And in the example in Luke 1 as I said the word is always good, but whether you receive from God or not that is up to you. According to you whether you believe or not it doesn’t matter, now that is a dangerous point of view.

“God’s punishment for their sin would have happened if they said nothing” that’s what you said, so what sin are you referring to.
Numbers 14:28 “As ye have SPOKEN in my ears, so will I do unto you.” So how could you say they had nothing to do with it and God said they had everything to do with it.

He said “My word will not return to me void” for a reason as in Isaiah 57:19 “I create the fruit of the lips....”

Frank, you are proving my point with your argumentation. Also, you are drifting away from the original point of discussion, which is the meaning of Isaiah 55:11.

I have indulged your bringing in other texts that you imagine support your view, and have answered them. But I will no longer chase around through the Bible while you throw up verse after verse as a diversionary smoke-screen.

You need to go back and re-read Isaiah 55 and deal with the issues I have put forward, not, as you have done, ignore them and simply throw out another rabbit for me to chase.

If you are not willing to do this further discussion between us will not be fruitful, but only result in rancor, which neither of us wants.
