"Movement challenges IRS ban on naming names from pulpit"
The number of pastors standing up for their right to preach from their pulpits on politics is surging.
They call a ban on such speech a cultural myth.
In 2008, 35 pastors defied the IRS, which holds the position that church organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office.
The number of pastors boldly opposing the IRS rule grew to 539 in 2011 and is expected to be more than 1,500 on Oct. 7, during what organizers are calling Pulpit Freedom Sunday.
The pastors find support and instructions on participating at pulpitfreedom.org, and they are backed by a legal team ..........

I bet Jeremiah Wright’s church has not lost its 501C3. Let the revolt begin!
I’d be more impressed with their bravery and faith if they just gave up the Federal tax benefit. Then the IRS wouldn’t have ANY leverage on them.
It’s a leash and churches voluntarily clip it to their collars and hand it the IRS. Nobody is forcing them to take the tax benefit.
People if you wouldn't donate if you didn't get a tax deduction you don't understand the whole teaching of God in "first fruits" giving and you should reconsider what you're learning in your church.
This shows the IRS has no leverage. This regulation is completely unconstitutional and the IRS knows it. That’s why the IRS has NEVER taken one of these cases to trial. Ever. They know it would be thrown out thus the last thing they want is a test case. They cling to what little effect their “scare letters” have now.
I don’t attend church to hear politics.
I will walk out if my pastor preaches anything but Christ crucified.

Before Christ was crucified He warned of the despots who would come to destroy. I expect my pastor to use his 1st amendment reights to be the watchman and warn us.

Thanks “gamecock” for reminding me........Eze_3:17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.
Christ walked among us at a time when Israel was under tremendous persecution. And yet He taught that His Kingdom is not of this earth. He instructed his followers to render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s.
The despots are religious leaders, wolves in sheeps clothing.
